Don't Sleep on the Sun Belt

Nebraska cant afford to overlook any opponent in this day and age, this goes for all schools out there, the playing field across the country has been more competitive than it ever has, i feel Pelini will make sure the team is ready, take it one game at a time, thats the way you have to do it

1705,

I certainly hope none of the team have your attitude. It is what got us into this situation in the first place. Thinking we were better than other teams, slacking in practice, taking wins for granted. Your never better until the game is over and you are the higher number on the scoreboard. Respect your competition.

It ain't happen no more sir. Every game on your schedule is a potential loss.

Our real talent level is not much above FAU, and my guess is our speed is below them.

I hope you are right, and I think you are, but thinking every game is going to be easy is a mistake to say the least.
Wow, I just about fell out of my chair with that one. Talent level not much above FAU? Really? I disagree...bigtime.

Are you telling me if Nebraska was moved to the Sunbelt Conference in 2008, they would have been 6-6 and MAYBE 7-5? Please.

We may struggle at first because it's the first game of the season, but we are still going to win. I try to be as objective as possible when talking about Nebraska, but seriously. What a ridiculous statement.

I agree with the gist of your post, but I have to say this team speed statement was laughable. I've said it myself that NU cannot over look any of these teams, because even if it is the Sun Belt, these are three of the best teams in the conference. But trust me, I watched FAU last season, and their overall talent level is nowhere near NU's. They do have some offensive weapons, and will probably light up the scoreboard more than Husker fans are going to like. But if they really had the team speed of the larger conferences, they wouldn't have lost to TX,MN, and Mich St, by a combined score of 106-13 last year.

Okay, the more I think about that one sentence, the more ridiculous it becomes.

I mean, I agree that Nebraska cannot overlook any opponents, and I don't think they will. This coaching staff wouldn't allow it.

That being said, where are you getting this idea that FAU talent is equal to or slightly less than that of Nebraska? I must not be watching the same players...

You're right to think that we COULD get caught sleeping by any team...I mean we don't want a repeat of Southern Miss back in 2004 (new coach and offense but it was still a stunner)...

..I just have a lot of faith in the fact that the players are getting really hungry during the off season and ready to keep the ball rolling from 08'. I just see NU coming out the gate swinging and kickin some a$$!

Now I am among the most skeptical as regards the Husker's talent level. Yet while I concur that our talent level is not top 25 at the moment (at least not our developed, Jr & Sr-level talent) I do think our talent level should be superior to FAU and certainly hope our speed is superior too. Could I be wrong on this? Could FAU actually be faster than NU? Man, I hope not. Sure NU is not fast by top tier school standards, but FAU!
FAU does have a LOT of speed on Offense, especially in the TE/WR/FB position.

We recruit 95% of our athletes from Florida, and speed is a strong suit in most Florida players. They will be at or slightly below NU in that regard.

The REAL diffrence will be on the Lines. FAU and most Belt teams are undersized on the OL/DL compared to BCS programs and thats where you guys will have the strong advantage and depth.

Im not saying we are close in talent in totatlity. But in Offense I think we are.

I think your offense is going to be a good early test for a young Nebraska defense. We have a solid, veteran line, but our LBs are going to be mostly inexperienced and FAU could bust some big gains if these guys aren't playing sound football.

I'm a fan. I can overlook the Sun Belt all I want. It makes no difference. All my preperations, meditating, and yelling at the referees from my basement has not helped Nebraska score one point in my life time, so saying "We're gonna crush them!!" really doesn't either.
I know for a fact that my yelling at the TV has helped the Huskers win! In fact just last Gator Bowl, I was yelling at the tv during half about making plays and what do you know, good old Castille was paying attention!

I thought the same thing myself, but I took a look at the Owl's spring two deep on the Dline. And surprisingly FAU averages 280 lbs, while NU averages 282lbs. That is not nearly as large of a gap as I thought it would be! Hell, the Owls have a true Fresh DLineman who is 6' 8" 298lbs! I hope that kids not ready by the 5th of September.

Say what????

It seems that evey post I read you're talking about how horribly untalented and slow the Huskers are; so I need to ask you a serious and simultaneously sarcastic question:

Is there any team in the entire college football world that Nebraska has better speed and talent than?

I mean seriously dude... :WTH

It was the same talk about the texas game last season..... We have more talent and better coaches..Nebraska isn't Ark, Ala, Minn, or any of the others... Saban lost alot of games to crappy teams, he can't them to play for the big ones.. We always play up for the little teams

This seems about right. As someone else mentioned, FAU isn't all that small on DL, but I think NU has a significant edge in talent on the lines - regardless of size. FAU has some speed and will probably get some big plays, especially early in the game. But the Blackshirts get better as the games goes on, and the lines will start to wear FAU down. IMO, NU wins by 3 TD's, but it's still a one score game going into the 4th quarter.
