Don't Sleep on the Sun Belt

Interesting tidbit about the Sun Belt, I live about 30 miles from Mobile, AL and the University of South Alabama(Sun Belt School) kicks off this year for the first time ever. Of course they start with some prep-schools but I was thinking of getting season tickets cause they are cheap and eventually they play some SEC and ACC schools by like 2012 I think. This would give me priority seating, just not sure if I should pull the trigger yet or not.

south bama isn't in FBS they are FCS arent' they?

south bama isn't in FBS they are FCS arent' they?

Currently USA is FCS division, hence the lighter schedule.

They are slated to move up to full FBS status around 2012 or 2013.

They have scheduled some pretty good teams.

Im looking forward to having them as a full member.

I just cant see this staff letting the players go that far into a sleep walk mode that would allow the sun belt teams to win. The last staff sure, we saw it repeatedly.

As to the speed question, FAU might have a few players that are really fast. But, not the whole team. The talent level is lower. NU still suffers a bit from that "Northern Slow Team" stigma. If speed wasnt an issue VS Clemson, it wont be vs any sun belt team.

Back to the thread: If FAU wants to keep it close then they need to not turn the ball over and bring their A++++ game on every snap and hope that Nebraska loses 5-6 turnovers and sleep walks through the game.

No disrespect intended to the one or two Owls fans who are lurking on this board, but you guys are looking at an almost certain loss.

Im not saying we are close in talent in totatlity. But in Offense I think we are.

I think your offense is going to be a good early test for a young Nebraska defense. We have a solid, veteran line, but our LBs are going to be mostly inexperienced and FAU could bust some big gains if these guys aren't playing sound football.

Dont count Dillard out just yet would provide veteran leadership and he is bustin his tail from what I have heard and has a chip on his shoulder this offseason.BTW we have young FAST LBs who should have the mental hicups taken care of with another year with Bo.

I think that we will be pleasantly surprised by the speed of our LBs and defense overall.

Youre most likely right, and I do see Nebraska winning by two touchdowns or more.

It could be a close game up till half time or late into the third quarter, but then the depth of your talent will pull it out and seal the deal.

Sun Belt teams just dont have the horses yet to go the distance. Troy is a prime example of this.

They led LSU 31-3 at the end of the 3rd quarter and then managed to lose the game in the 4th. Depth and playing conservative with a lead did them in.

If FAU played Nebraska 10 times, Nebraska wins 9 out of 10. I have no doubt of that. Were just hoping that this time is that 10% chance.

The point is valid, but I'm contractually obligated by the Dept. of Obviousness (I'm a Captain ) that we had a different coaching staff back then.

I really hope PD comes back and comes back strong. We sure could use an aggressive, experienced LB in that corps of young (but fast) guys. I wonder how much that "dog house" he was in was real and how much was done for motivational purposes.

It would be a sight to behold watching Suh let loose and wreaking havoc with that defensive line around him combined with Dillard playing an A-game with Compton and May and all the rest running around beside him. This could, potentially, be the best defense we've fielded since 2003.

As to the "best defense we have fielded since 2003' --- I agree. that said, we have not had a particularly good defense in that period so well... the standard is not particularly high.

We will be pretty good on D though --- I would think. maybe a top 25 defense (maybe top 20).

Certainly NU is moving in the right direction defensively

I think if Suh has the year most are expecting, we will see our defensive recruiting rise. It takes that level of player to test the others into coming, knowing they can learn from a great defensive coach and can they match what was done before.

I think we struggle on offense until we have a two or three year starter. We will be okay, this year, but I am anxious to see Watson's offense with a high level athlete who has run it for a couple of years going into his senior year.

I will say this: If your team can come into Lincoln and win, then I'll be one of the first to say congratulations.

If they come in here an hold us to a 14 point win it is a win win situation for them. Good money, played respectable against the big boy. Makes recruiting that 4th best player in Florida a lot easier down the road.

That is how Florida State did it, how Boise State, Tulsa and a few others are doing it now.

I think of the three Sun Belt teams this one has the best shot of putting up a good game. They have good experience in the skill positions, first game, and have been pointing to it since the end of last year. They will know more about us and than us about them. That is respect for what they are going to play. Hard to get our kids as excited as they will be is my guess. I expect mistakes from out secondary, but Suh could change that I guess.

I highly doubt we will losing this game, but I expect it to very interesting for awhile. If it isn't then I would say Bo has made another step forward in preperation.

Meaning their kids have most likely lived this game since they knew it was on the schedule.

They know our tendencies, our normal routine, who rotates in when, and where. If some one is injured who should replace him. This is their major game of the year. A chance to become known.

Our kids will be looking at it as more of a warm up for conference.

I certainly could be wrong on this, just my thoughts.
