Last 3 BCS Champs had a loss

Guys, the meltdown is ridiculous. You lost to a good football team on the road...by one point. You didn't play a team that was 0-12 last year (haha USC).

I guarantee you that the team isn't as down on themselves as you are, they have manned up and moved on, and that's exactly what each one of you should do.

Be there Saturday ready to celebrate 300 consecutive sellouts, beat the hell out of the ragin cajun's...and GO f'ing BIG RED!!!

God finally somebody who is thinking clearly. FFS the only reason most of these threads have been started is because we lost.

What I took away from this game is we are better than VaTech and we proved it, we just couldn't punch it into the end zone and couldn't stop one deep pass play.

All of these "baaah the coaches suck" and "get #33 off the field!" threads are ridiculous. We got beat by the 13th best team in the nation and by a guy who has been coaching this team for 23 YEARS. Our head coach is in his second year with talent he didn't recruit and guys he has had for two years. The members of this board have seen the strides we made in two years with players being taught a new system, imagine guys we have here for 3 to 4 years who have been taught the same system since day 1? It will be deadly.

Exactly! Careful though. I made the same point you did about how some NC teams have had one loss before and got laughed at by a Texass fan and  by another poster. Regardless, I'm in your boat. Still too much season left and still a lot we can accomplish.

Please, nobody take this as if I'm saying this will happen or anything like that.

But if NU runs the table, they are in the BCS Title game. That'd be road wins against MU and KU, a home win against TTech and OU, and a Big 12 championship game against more than likely Texas, but potentially OU or OSU also. Only loss being a 1 point road loss against Virginia Tech early in the season with a young team. The computers will take the toughness factor in, and the voters can see through the rest. If they run it, they're in.

Now, doing that is the hard part....

One thing you have to keep in consideration about running the table is this: the BCS. A couple of things go into their decisions as far as who goes to the title game. Things like....

1) Style Points: Are these teams winning by big margins or just scraping by. Are they looking awesome while they do it or boring people?

2) BCS rank. We're down a little further on the totem pole now. Even running the table and a win against Oklahoma and the Big 12 South Champ, we have to hope that we will get some love in order to be bumped up into the Top 3 teams nationally.

3) Other teams running the table or having one loss. If we run the rest of the table, Florida runs the table, and some other big time program has maybe one loss against a big time opponent, we may be overlooked.

But the biggest obstacle in our way is in fact running the table. That is a big challenge within itself.

Obviously the biggest thing is running the table..

But if OU beats Miami in 2 weeks, they will be top 6 when they play Texas.. more than likely the winner of that game goes to the Big 12 title game.. If Texas wins it, they pry go undefeated in the big 12 and are #2 in the big 12 title game. Florida, Ole Miss, and Bama can't all run the table. UF probably will. Cal didn't look anything close to impressive against Minnesota.. Penn State would be the 1 to worry about going undefeated also.. @ Michigan but they have OSU at home.. If you beat KU and MU on the road, OU @ home, and UT in the big 12 championship game, and you probably leap frog Boise.. USC would probably get more love being 1 loss than us, but its tough to see a 1-loss (on the road by 1 pt, to a top 15 team) big 12 team not playing for the title...

Are you guys really this optimistic, or are you just super bored?

I seriously wonder if Va Tech will even finish the season ranked. I don't really understand this much optimism.

Granted Va Tech didn't look the best... but it doesn't matter how pretty a win looks. And as far as I'm concerned, our chances of taking it all in a season like this are just as good as next year. Just think of all the upsets occur... it's not out of the question that an unexpected team just finds a seemingly impossible way to run the table... Isn't our season's success dependent on not making mistakes when we expect not to and then coming up with some extraordinary plays/games?

Too many what ifs.

They'll finish ranked, too good of a defense not to and their running game is good as well. And they'll knock off the overrated Hurricanes this week :) But I do believe they will finish ranked.

Va Tech will finish in the top 25. They have consistently done so every year. A program that wins 10 games a year very rarely just falls off. They are not as bad as everyone on here is boasting about. They played a top 5 team in their FIRST game and took them to the wire and then played against us, and i believe that Nebraska is as solid of a team as there is right now (with the exception of a shaky first road start for a qb and offense in general with exception to Roy Helu Jr.). Don't act like Virginia Tech won't Beamer Ball itself right into the top 15 or 20 at the end of this year just like it does every year.
