I went to my first game since colorado '04 yesterday and can say that I was really disappointed in our fans. I sat in west stadium. After the first series of the game, the crowd was never loud again and I wasn't able to stand anymore because of the people around me. One person from my group, who was a lady in her 40s was told by the usher that she would have to be escorted out if she didn't sit down because the people behind her summoned the usher when they told her to sit down so they could see and she refused. I don't care about the boos for the refs, but I have a problem with everything else. What exactly does it take for our fans to actually get into the game? Every time something goes badly(like Tech getting a first down) then our fans get quieter, which is opposite of what should happen. Best fans in the country? I guess I need to go back to the student section, because at least the vast majority of them yell and act like they are at a football game instead of a movie. :angry:

im 16 and have been going to games for 8 years on season tickets....40 rows up south endzone...and the fans around me actually stood up more than usual...but if people wanted to sit down then watch it on tv somewhere...i agree 100%...im young and want to stand up all game besides commercial breaks and timeouts...and sometimes the people around me do not allow me to...i think standing all game ended after solich...the only game i remember standing up all game since the 01 oklahoma games was the 06 texas game...i went to the vtech game this year and my dad got tickets from a booster...and we got to sit by the older people again...who told me to sit down cuz they couldnt see...a f*ckin joke

I didn't go to many games prior to college(Wyoming '94, Pacific '95, Central Florida '97) so maybe it's always been this way. I remember the fans being a lot more into the game in '94 when the game was on the line than I observed yesterday. Is it just me, or does this west coast offense put people in a mild sleep every time the offense comes out. I used to look forward to the offense coming on the field. Now I look forward to the defense coming on the field. Maybe it's because I'm older, but I think it's because our offense just frustrates me when I watch it. And it's not just this year; it's been this way since about 2002.

 
Yesterday was my first time not sitting in the student section and WOW.

I do not see where we get the "best fans in college football" from. The majority of the people in Memorial are cranky old people who can barely hobble up the steps to their seats. Its ridiculous! Even on 3rd downs for Tech the North endzone area was quiet as a mouse... I can't tell you how many times I got yelled at to sit down.

Disgusting. Memorial is not a fun place to watch a game. All the cranky people complaining and thinking they should be running the game.

yeah the students are really into the game...but its irritating because many/most get too riled up and blame the refs for everything. One girl said the refs were F***ing us over because we got a delay of game. there's frustrating parts of fans wherever you sit.

Agreed. I posted it in another thread but I have definitely noticed this year (I've attended more games this year than any other) our fans are not as quality as they used to be, for many of the reasons you pointed out. The tickets I get are usually on the East side in the balcony and I'm the one person up there cheering and yelling and being loud. This time I sat underneath the balcony and, aside from the grandson of one of the patrons, I was the youngest by a solid 30 years. I was "asked" to coordinate with the other fans and sit down after the first play of the game. When I stood up and yelled/cheered I was looked at like I was an alien. The fans around me only pi$$ed and moaned about the calls, they didn't objectively look at them like someone would with any knowledge of the game and accept them for what they are.

Bleh. I agree with you. Hardly what you would expect from "the best fans in college football."

I'm not exaggerating when I say that I was astounded at the number of elderly people that come out for the game. I would definitely say they are the majority.

Memorial Stadium might get nice and full, but its hardly intimidating, the only thing the other team has to worry about is getting a walker or pair of dentures thrown at them.
