Baker to offense?

Now i know ill probably get flamed for this but it makes sense...

He was rated the #2 offensive lineman and #8 overall player in the country when he signed his LOI as well as obviously being a :star :star :star :star :star recruit. Most services projected him as a four star player on the defensive line..

We obviously need help on the offensive line and Baker is getting minimal snaps on the defensive side of the ball so i say, why not throw him on the offensive side for the remainder of the season (while also still letting him play defense)???

Although it is obviously not a perfect science, :star :star :star :star :star recruits are labeled as such because they are typically ready to be a starter on a division 1 football team. I say that because i know that he has been practicing on the defensive side of the ball, but i think that he could easily make the switch.

I know that it likely will not happen but IMO it really should as it may give us the best chance to win by getting our athletes on the field where they will help the team the most. right now he will help the most on the offensive side of the ball instead of backing up 2 of the best DTs in the country...

thoughts?

Maybe the kid wanted a change of pace?

I think he'll work well next year to replace Suh as a DT, I don't know his current weight, but he was 6'6 290 coming out of high school.. I figure they put on atleast 15lbs of muscle on him which would be a decent size for a DT.. I know crick hasn't even gotten to 300 and he's playing lights out at 6'6.. we'll see.

He's 6'8

IMO, you keep him at DT. The DT position is one that takes a unique combination of size and athleticism, much moreso than OT, IMO. Great OTs are easier to come by than great DTs, in my opinion.

And, FWIW, Huskers.com has him listed as 6'6", and I'd trust that more than anything else.

Jared Crick 6'6"

Baker Steinkuhler 6'6"

we are gonna have a big defensive line next year.

He won't move because we have so many unknowns at DT next year without him. We move him and we rely upon .. Terrence Moore? Thaddeus Randle? Justin Jackson?

Got a big hole to fill when Suh leaves and Baker is BY FAR the most capable player we have.

Kinda sucks for the kid. Dude could have been an AA candidate for multiple years on the OL. That is if we had anyone but Barney coaching him. Kid would likely regress on the technique he learned from his high school days. HA

I thought Moore was supposed to be pretty talented...? No?

Besides, with Allen coming back and Meredith on the other end, combined with Crick in the middle, they could put my sorry old butt in at the other DT and we'd still have a fine D Line. That's three guys you've got to be ready for, and if you're not, you're going to get burned. That fourth guy just needs to be serviceable and we're good.

Did anyone think Crick was going to explode this year? Give the Pelini's a little credit. I don't believe they would plug Steinkuhler into that spot if he wasn't capable of producing at a high level.

Bo Pelini has coached first round NFL D-line Picks the last 6 years. I think he knows what he's doing.

Wow, that is impressive.

Who else besides Suh and Dorsey? Who was it at OU, I'm drawing a blank....

I think most everyone thought Crick (or Moore, whichever guy won the spot) would do well. He's really only had that one crazy game. Other than that it's been steady production, but not outrageous.

We're looking just fine for the next year, but we need our DEs to come up big in a few games. They've been in contain mode for the most part, and haven't had the kind of impact *I* thought they'd have.

I am not saying that he is as good as Suh and that it didn't make a huge difference having him next to him, but you could argue that he is having a better statistical year than Ndamukong!

We'll see what he does next year when he gets all the doubles Suh is getting now. :)
