International Man of Mystery
They retired that plane a few years ago, but the need for a high-altitude camera platform didn't end with the cold war. I know satellite technology has improved dramatically, but I can't imagine it's totally replaced the mission the Blackbird used to fly. What would I like to see?
Bring the SR-71 out of retirement, and fly one over at Mach 3. Unfortunately we'd need new windows in the press box . . . and maybe an entirely new structure.
Still the most awe inspiring airplane of the last 100 years. 40 years old . . . and still untouchable performance wise.
If I had to guess, I'd say they have another, faster, more badass plane out there right now that is still black enough that we don't know about it yet. Maybe the "Aurora" project the tinfoil hat folks always talk about?
All I know is, I'd love to see this plane.
