Well...I'm coaching youth football...

Well...

I got suspended for a week.

Apparently, the league had a problem with coaches fighting last year and were put on probation.

So we had a makeup game Saturday morning at 9 am. It rained like hell, and the players didn't act like they wanted to be there. So it was third and long, so I call the fade pass. Incomplete. The coach that I have been having such issues with, came up to me and told me that I should make that a hitch & go.

Backstory: our o-line can't pass block for more than 1.5 seconds, so we don't have time for a hitch & go, just a 3 step fade. This coach (who is supposedly the o-line coach) hasn't shown up to a practice in probably 2 weeks (6 practices). He shows up at the games and tries to take over.

Back to the original story...He's behind me telling them to run a hitch & go. I send my player onto the field with the play for 4th down (I said screw it, we're not punting), and the following conversation ensues (paraphrased):

KC: "Don't ever tell my kids what to do again."

Other coach: "I've done this for 25 years, and it works, you've been out here for 2 months and think you know football. Fine, lose the game, I don't care."

KC: "I've forgotten more about offenses in the last 5 years than you've ever known. Maybe we'd have time to run the hitch & go if you'd get your butt (yes, I held back) to practice and teach these kids how to block. And by the way, we're down 26-0 before halftime. Don't blame that one play on losing the game."

Other coach: "I can't believe you're coming out here and saying that you know more than me. I've been coaching for so long, I've been around football all of my life. You don't know what's going on in my life so don't question me missing practice."

KC: "It's awfully funny that you can miss practice but make every game."

Other coach: "You're suspended for a week after this game."

KC: "What? Why?"

Other coach: "You're not providing a positive influence as a role model to these kids."

KC: "You're kidding me right?"

Other coach: "No. As the vice president of the Youth Football Association I have to suspend you."

So there goes Huskerboard. KC has a week off!

Wow, that sounds to me that someone is having an issue with their power. Just because he is VP he automatically assumes to know more about football than another person. To me that's not setting "a good example" to the kids either. I'm not sure in this environment if it is possible, but I would be trying to appeal this. Although he is the VP and probably not get very far, it would set a "good example" to the kids for going for something that you believe in. Sorry to hear about the situation you have on your hands.

It's ok. I'm getting a little burned out from it anyway. A week off will be nice.

This guy has probably been "around" football for years. Being the waterboy or equipment manager does not count. Or, he got beat up a lot while in school so this is his only way of getting back for all of his misfortune.

Well...I didn't update last week, but I got reinstated.

Turns out he didn't know what plays to call without me there, and since he hasn't been at practice, he doesn't know what I added. So we had our last game of the regular season last week. Got crushed. So bad the refs ended it halfway through the 4th. I just don't understand how all of these teams we play have such great athletes, and we have great kids, but just not athletes.

Anyways, we have our 'bowl' game Wed night. Apparently 0-12 can be bowl eligible in our league. It's against the team that beat us 6-0 at the beginning of the season. We've been scrimmaging them throughout the season and I really think that we can put some points on the board. We score on them in the scrimmages quite often.

We'll see. I'm just ready to be able to go home from work and relax.

Good Luck Killer!!!
Thanks Man!

...but we lost. Only team in the history of football to not score a point all season.

After the game the OL/A$$hole coach told the players that he was sorry he wasn't there very often, and that he'd promise to be there next year.

I immediately resigned as a coach of the Timberwolves and am looking for another team to coach.
