How about Tyler Legate?

I was extremely impressed with Tyler Legate in Saturday's win over Oklahoma.

He hit the gaps hard, slammed into the linebackers who you could tell wanted nothing to do with him, and was a general pain in the neck for the OU defenders all game.

I don't think he is getting enough attention for his job in Saturday's game. Fullbacks are always the unsung heroes of football games. They are the guys who don't get the big play recognition but are responsible for a lot of plays, and he looked especially good on the big runs Roy Helu busted last week.

I was very impressed with this kid, and I hope to see him utilized more in the future.

I was thinking the same thing. The kid had a hell of a game, how about when he took out two linebackers at the same time.

What's the story on the other FB's on the roster? seems like Legate came out of nowhere. Thomsen? I think I'm missing a few names. And we have Zimmerman redshirting.

After watching the highlights from the OU game, it's obvious that this kid just loves being out there on the field playing for NU. He's one of the first guys down to congratulate someone after a big play, even after he just got done destroying a LB.

I was glad to see Helu give him a shout out in his some of his post game comments. Legate has definitely deserved it. I say give him at least 3 or 4 carries a game, he's earned it.

Last year you couldn't even say we had a starting fullback, it was single-back or maybe we bring in Suh at the goalline. Legate has done some good things this year and should be real contributor in the seasons to come. Will be interested to see if Zimmerer can push him next season.

They were saying last night on The Spread that the OU linebackers wanted no part of Legate, that they were shying away from contact from him.

A strong, physical player like Legate is a huge bonus for our run game, especially when the O Line is struggling.

Isn't that the play where Helu broke it for 63yds?
Actually that was a different play.

On the 63 yarder though, he had a key block on an OU perimeter defender that allowed Helu to go for 63 yards. Without that block Helu would have been cut short for only a couple yard gain.

They need to give Legate the ball about 25 times a game and let him run over people on his way to scoring many touchdowns !!

I have been one of his critics... Watch a couple ISU highlights, he missed a block on one of the fumbles, or it was atleast a bad block.

BUT.... I must admit he played with a lot of heart SAT and the only play I remember from the game is him coming at 2LBs hitting them like a brick wall, getting knocked backwards but at the same time Helu got freed up

I've never understood why they appear to be so against getting the ball to a fullback unless it is a pass in the flat. Fullbacks have always been a nice change of pace for a running game. Even if they don't net a lot of yardage, most people aren't expecting the 240 pound bruiser in the back field to get the ball.

Thomsen out of Elkhorn, may have switched to defense and a linebacker spot. Fulbacks weren't seeing the field much in the offense, and I think he switched in the fall.
