A House subcommittee approved legislation Wednesday aimed at forcing college football to switch to a playoff system to determine its national champion, over the objections of some lawmakers who said Congress has meatier targets to tackle.

The bill, which faces steep odds, would ban the promotion of a postseason NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision game as a national championship unless it results from a playoff. The measure passed by voice vote in a House Energy and Commerce Committee subcommittee, with one audible "no," from Rep. John Barrow, D-Ga.

They'd better not interfere with anymore private sh#t!!!! There is no place for the government to force anything about sports!

I agree about the govt interference, but in this case-Well, if that's what it takes to get rid of this BCS joke, that's what it takes.

It's that attitude that has us in the mess we are in now. When government uses its ultimate power to "help" there is always unintended consequences of that help.

Do we want affirmative action for the lessor conference teams to force their way into a playoff they have no business being in?

Just taking a quick look around, I can think of about half a million things they need to spend time on before college football.....

Whatever state those morons belong to really need to vote for someone else next year.

Hell, why don't we just have the congress name their favorite team every year and that's the champion. Maybe we can march a parade past the hill and sing an anthem to our leaders while we, as Americans, all celebrate their team of choice. Yeah, pass that bill.

Every day there's something else on the docket that would have given Adams and Jefferson a stroke.

This is really nothing more than a symbolic gesture. I'm sure the members of congress/senate realize this but are pushing it so they can say 'look at me/us! see what we're trying to accomplish? Now vote for me/us!" As well, I'm sure the BCS hedgehogs realize there's really nothing the gov't can do so they're laughing all the way to the bank.

Too much of this power trip is going on. Our governing body was designed to squabble amongst each other and only had the power to defend the country on a whim. This is insane. Who cares what you think of the BCS this is about the government throwing weight around that they shouldn't even possess. Even if it is just a way to gain votes... it's a new low then.

Everbody run fur da hillz, tha goberment is after us agin!!!

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't this already being done? I thought the MNC game was billed as "The BCS Championship (or Title) Game"?
