CFN 2010 Pre-Preseason Rankings

GSG

Assistant Coach
5. Nebraska 2009 Final CFN Ranking: 17

If you’re looking for your sleeper, or at least a team that might just outside of everyone’s preseason top five who might end up in Glendale, this could be it. Ten starters are back on offense and there’s good, developed depth to rely on, and while the defense loses Ndamukong Suh and Barry Turner off the line and SS Larry Asante from the secondary, Bo Pelini’s defense isn’t going to take a major step back with Jared Crick and Pierre Allen the stars up front. Schedule-wise, the early date at Washington will be a test, but it’s winnable for a team dreaming of a national title. Road games at Oklahoma State and Texas A&M are dangerous, but Texas and Missouri have to come to Lincoln.
Rest of the story here

The hype is nice, but we still have to show up and play the games! :bonez :power

Oye, I have a much harder time believing these pre-preseason rankings. It's almost like this guy thinks the top teams are returning everyone they had last year...except Boise St, which is the one team that actually is returning everyone. Based on this & his synopsis of the teams, I think this guy is all about the hype & how each of these teams finished 2009. Honestly I can't trust this guy to pick NU #5. There's a slew of other "analysts" I'd trust more than this schlub.

Don't read this stuff. Websites and magazines have to make money and get readers. By posting stuff like this it raises eyebrows and makes people read that is all it's for and we need to be optomistic but not to much so about next season. Be prepaired for a letdown if you think this is true at least that's what im doing so if it does happen it will be a pleasent surprise.

Don't listen to him! Everyone read my threadz! They are the bests!

Well the website that is from is free. Plus these guys have nothing to write about until Spring Practice starts. But we do need to temper our expectations some. I guarantee Bo and the rest of the coaches aren't letting any of this hype get into the players' heads.

everyone is complaining about the hype and how high we are in preseason polls. yes, we know NU weaknesses better than most, but my question is: if not NU, then who, who belongs up high. from the prospective contenders, i think NU is generally where they should be and i do not think it is merely hype. NU has drastically improved both seasons under bo, and it is time for the team to play well on both sides. given bo's progress, the finish of this last year, the returners, and the schedule, we are a top ten team; whether you like it or not. a top ten team who will hopefully finish higher than they started (however, the higher you start, the harder to do that) and we should expect a bcs game, if not the mnc game.

Good call on that question. There's so many what-ifs for lots of teams heading into 2010. My answer to your question is Bama, OSU, Boise St, & Oregon stand a better shot on paper of reaching the MNC game. As far as BCS bowls go though, I think you have to include Nebraska in the picture. Therefore, top 10 makes sense.

I think a lot of us are leery of how our team might respond to a high pre-season ranking. That's why we're seeing the "don't believe the hype" & "let the chips fall where they may once we play" talk on this board.

What we all need to remember is that Coach Bo firmly believes this team can beat anybody in the country. If that's what he believes, that's what the players believe. I don't know about you, but that says a lot IMO. Because of that, I gotta say "top 10 here we come!" :power

Exactly, you can say this who would of thought that we would honestly be here in year 3? I thought maybe 4 or 5, but people considering us as a dark horse in year 3? You know Bo is doing something right.

i agree and like what you said. but i won't be any more or less disappointed in next years season if we play well and lose four games than i was this year. i guess what i am saying is, what's the difference between finishing 15th when you started 20-25 or 5-10. every loss this next year will be as disappointing/heartbreaking as they were this last year (i thought nothing could hurt as bad as va. tech, because that was our ticket to the top ten and back to the national stage, and then there was a late field goal). enjoy the hype, relish the hype, brag to your rivalry friends about the hype, live in the now and embrace the hype, wait until we are not discussed in the hype and then criticize it as being merely hype and we are better than they expect. but for now, for these next couple of months, we ARE as good as they say we are, how could we not be?

its incredible how every single sports writer has us ranked so high....pretty flattering if you ask me. And to a point i agree with it i believe if we play alabama type offense....run the ball limit turnovers rely on defence we will live up to the hype.
