How many Florida prospects were going after this year? Now I know its early but it seems that every athlete that headlines HI is some kid from Florida (usually a defensive player) that is considering the huskers and probably going to use one of his officials with us. Doesn't our # of Florida targets seem abnormaly high this year?

 
I noticed that too, the speed/athletes in florida are just a completely different animal than anywhere else in the country. I would expect to see 2-3 florida players in this class: Jephette Matilus, Kent Turene, and Andrew Johnson. But watch for Anthony Chickillo, Tacoi Sumler, Alex Dixon, Wayne Lyons, Keith Lewis, Broderick Lee, Ryan Shazier, Conard Johnson, and Jeremy Cash. All have shown interest in the big red.

 
It's clear that NU is offering a lot more Florida guys this year. There are a ton who are actually interested in NU and know what we're doing, which was not the case a couple of years ago. Awesome!!! Bo has been able to establish relationships with some coaches in some of the top programs in the state. It began with the gator bowl workshops, where he hosted coaches for free clinics... then he has been building those relationships over the past couple of years... we were able to land Brion Carnes... who most players are familiar with... and now the top OT Tyler Moore is on his way... Coaches are taking notice of NU, loving our staff, and seeing great players leave the state for NU. Players are seeing other players talk up NU and it's helping us.

Now with that said, Florida, Texas, and California contain the most talent. The numbers of DI players in these 3 states is extremely high. Callahan targeted Cali because of his connections with the Raiders etc... Pelini started out with Louisiana and Texas due to his LSU connections... but we are seeing a shift towards Florida. For some reason Pelini has shifted majority attention from Callahan's Cali to Florida... now we still have a presence in Cali, but that presence is not as aggressive as it once was. We are now recruiting heavily in Texas, Florida, Louisiana, and Ohio, along with Nebraska and its border states. The response from Ohio and Florida has grown the most. Texas seems to be steady and Louisiana seems to be steady with what it was Bo's first year.

Look for Nebraska to target Florida, Texas, California and Ohio for a majority of its players and then take the top players out of the states of Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, and Missouri.

There is a boat load of talent in Ohio too. Braylon Heard, Jordan Hicks, Latwan Anderson, & Christian Bryant were all in the rivals top 250. And all of them were 4 or 5 stars. If Bo can keep hitting ohio hard, were could hit a gold mine. His status as a coach in that state helps alot too.

 
i think we are recommiting to our base boarder states so to speak..... firming up our inroads into states we have been working on the last few years (ca, fl,LA

while laying ground work in a lot of the big 10 states ( ohio, illinois, PA and getting our name out still on minn).....

id even like to see JP work the MD connections somemore as MD is a good play for some really nice recruits who hardly seem to all committ to Maryland... committments seem to be all over the place (between ACC and Big 10, Big East and SEC) so i could see us coming in and offering something unique and diffrent

 
Florida was a traditional pipeline state for us along with Texas. One of the few good things Callahan did was really get us in Cali more than ever before. If we can continue to re-establish our presence in Florida, keep it up in Texas, and stay steady in Cali we will have a lot of talent. Also as others have said Ohio is an obvious target due to the Pelini effect there and shoreing up our border states is always a good idea. By getting the top talent in Ne, Co, Ka, Mo, Ia, Dakotas we will pull 4-5 targets a year. Add another 4-5 from Tex and Fla. Then 2-3 from Ca and Oh. That is 10-15 quality targets a year. I think Bo and his staff are way better recruiters than they get credit for.
