Two Quick Thoughts

Two things on my mind today that don't really fit on any current topic (the graduation could go with transfers I guess)

1. Recruiting Matt Pressey. Not a lot of Doc's recruits have panned out, but he appears to be on the trail of a potentially good player. Matt Pressey has, I believe, over 20 offers and has said his top four choices are ISU, Mizzou, A&M, and (amazingly) Nebraska. IF, IF Doc could get him, get him admitted, get him to stay, and develop him, maybe things turn start turning around: Jeter, CS, McCray, B-rich AND a legit big xii player?? They could go .500! But I'm tired of getting my hopes up, so I'm not planning on any of this happening.

2. I know Doc didn't get hired 'til August, so he hasn't really had a full four years, BUT.... he has coached four years and has not graduated any of his own four year players. I know he's done some redshirting and such, but if I've done my research correctly, he won't graduate any next year either. That's not good.

Interesting thoughts. Just wondering but where did you get your info on Matt Pressey? I tried looking him up and the only sight that has his name on the database is rivals and it doesn't even list his school choices. But I don't think one player can save Doc's job unless its someone like Brandon Knight or Josh Selby which we have no chance on either one of the two.

He took over a program with less than very little b-ball tradition, and was on the verge of death due to the 2003 Basketball scandal yet has recruited the right players and is now one game away from from the Final Four.

I like Doc but he has got to pull his head out of his a$$ and start winning.

He recruits a kid, brings him in, and the kid leaves the bball program with a degree in his hand - wasn't counting jucos.

Vince - I understand what you're saying about Baylor, but what does that have to do with an August hiring? It took Scott Drew four years to turn Baylor around. He didn't do it overnight. And the August thing absolutely matters, most kids have signed with a school in the spring, the pickins in August are EXTREMELY slim. I only mentioned it because this should have been Doc's first year of graduating his own recruits, BUT his first recruiting season was 2 months instead of 1 year.

How about this. Sixteen thousand fans go to each game next year and cheer wildly. Recruits come to visit and see an atmosphere that matches that of only the top 20 schools. Some good ones sign. Then the next year sixteen thousand more fans at each game and a couple more Big 12 caliber players on board. After that, we start winning and sixteen thousand people are at each game because they want to see a great team. It would be nice to think that Nebraska fans are different and would go support a below average team, with the promise (likely although not certain) that they would get better, with the investment of going out to watch them in a couple of down years. What else are you going to do on a Wednesday night? :wasted

Get the f*ck over yourself and go to the damn games. How can you claim to bleed red during the fall and then turn your back on the 'skers that play on hardwood?

Seriously? I didn't know that, no wonder we aren't getting any recruits because have publicly stated that they rarely deal with recruiting these days unless the athlete being recruited isn't on an AAU team. If I was Doc I would be tempted to just visist a AAU tournament and see what he gets out of it. I know he wouldn't be alowed to talk to anybody but it sure would be better than nothing. I honestly don't know how you can recruit well and not talk to AAU coaches. No wonder we get so many JUCO's and players from other countries.

In other words, you will follow them when they win. Our guys chose to play for the Huskers, that is all it takes to have my support. There are plenty of people in Lincoln and Omaha to fill Devaney. They've done it before. Have you ever seen a full stadium for a crappy team (don't mention the Callahan years, it would only serve to prove my point). I may be reversing the typical cause - effect relationship, but I think a good team would result. :WTH
