Missourian wins Powerball

Good for him though, I kind of like to see people like that win it, it is good that he gets to provide a good life for his 3 kids.

I don't like to see anyone win the lottery. Something like 90% of big winners end up way worse off.

I give him 3 years before he loses everything. :(

Thing is, people are dumb with it. If I won today, I'd pay off my house, buy a new car for me, a new car for the future wife, and life very comfortably the rest of my life.

There's no need for me to go buy a multi-million dollar mansion. I mean, my house would be tricked out (hardwoods installed, surround sound, projector), but I wouldn't blow it. I also wouldn't quit my job.

Exactly. These people don't know what to do with money. They think winning the powerball is an inexhaustible blank check.

all true, but if you had $29 to your name and 3 kids and won the jackpot, you can't tell me that wouldn't be worth it to get your children out of the gutter if just for a little while even if you do blow it at the end.

Being suddenly rich doesn't make someone suddenly wise. That's the gist of what carlfense is saying, and he's right. Many of us would win $500,000 and be well off the rest of our lives. Some people would win $5,000,000 and be broke in a few years.

Look at Mike Tyson. Perfect example.

The part about this that ticks me off is he spent $5.00 to buy the ticket. That is $40.00 a month, so how much is this guys electric bill? Gas? I bet he had cable. If you were so worried about paying your bills maybe you shouldn't be buying power ball tickets. Granted it has panned out for this guy, but how many tickets were sold for that draw, a few million, possibly more. How many of those tickets were sold to people who dont know how they are going to pay the bills this month? It is missed placed priorities. I am glad for this guy, the odds are stacked against him, but I really hope he is smart enough to lock some money away for his kids future. On a side note, I heard the other day that two of the Nebraska Seven are now broke, go figure.

correct, but you don't have to become suddenly rich to squander away your money either, like the majority of Americans that have $10k+ in credit card debt, and live well beyond their means. All i am saying is whether he pisses it away or not, at least his kids get a chance to see how the other shoe fits for once.
