I hope the money is worth it

I for one am not happy about this move to the big 10. to begin with i hate all of the teams in that arrogant undeserving conference. I dont want to hate the teams nebraska plays. dislike at times but respect always (except ksucks)...

I live in kansas city, and this move is going to kill sporting life here. as well how easy is it going to be to travel to penn st. each year to see the huskers play and support them on the road. iowa city isnt the shortest drive from lincoln as well. atleast we could attend the north games pretty easily and inexpensively.

i almost feel like nebraska is running away from the tx schools. we havent beat them in awhile so lets move on...i am ashamed when i speak to my KU friends. I believe in TO but is he bringing his bitterness from 1992 to 2010?? and by the way stop writing the threads about the tx game, after this move it doesnt matter anymore.

The money is bigger in the Big 10. but in a few years when the big 12 redoes their tv contracts, how can they not demand bigger money since over the last decade Big 12 teams have been in the majority of the national title games. Hell with the money TX, TX am, Oklahoma, and even NU and Mizzou have they should be able to start their own network. TX and Mizzou supply the household TVs. Hell why not just go get BYU and boise state for a few more...

Overall, i am not happy about this move. maybe it will be the best move in the end but right now not sure. I am going to miss being able to see the Huskers in person on the road. I am going to miss seeing the Huskers every few years in the championship game at arrowhead.

 
We'll probably play at Penn St once every 4 years, certainly not every year. I get your point that games will be further away, but then again you aren't living in the home state anymore so it's a bit selfish for you to think Husker sports should revolve around KC. I'll listen to someone from Omaha or Lincoln or outstate Nebraska complain about longer road trips, but from KC? Eh, you already left Nebraska.

If you think we're ducking Texas, you are dead wrong. It would bother me at all if Texas joined the Big 10 as well, as long as the rules are the same for all and they don't get to drag Baylor with them.

Texas seems more interested in having their very own sports network, which would prevent a Big 12 network from ever going anywhere. That's the reason to escape from Texas, not to get away on the field where we have pretty much caught up to them now. And what championship game at Arrowhead? You think that was ever going to happen again? The bitterness towards Texas is only because of what the turned the Big 12 into.

Ask your KU fans if they got any flowers from Texas for bending over for the last 15 years.

 
Texas is trying to take over the conference and not just by dominating on the field-- they are making terms (TX will never play NU at NU) that are just unreasonable and ridiculous. We're better to be rid of them. I would LOVE to play UT until we can smack them down with some regularity (I think that last year's game was part of a trend upwards, not a brush with greatness), but this is getting silly.

And all that aside, Big 10 academics are outstanding and I know that I would be happy if I could get more opportunities to collaborate with some of those universities.

The Big 10 would not have been my first choice of conferences to join. However, this isn't my main concern. My biggest concern right now is the domino effect and what that means to the future of college football. It appears our moving to the Big 10 will cause most of the Big 12 South to head to the Pac-10. Once this happens, it's just a matter of time before the SEC and ACC start their expansion mode. Money has ruined most professional sports for me. Whenever something about LeBron James and his free agency comes on ESPN, I change the channels. I'm afraid the money will eventually ruin college football. I was reading an article a day or so ago discussing how the gov't isn't real keen on these mega conferences. There is talk that college sports programs could lose their tax exempt status because they're seeing a trend of the rich schools getting riches while the poor schools get poorer. I don't want to talk politics at all, but will this newfound money really be worth it if we lose our tax exempt status? We may have just opened pandora's box here.

 
Valid points junior, but I think it was going to happen whether or not we made the move. This may look like Nebraska starting something big, but the handwriting is on the wall that the Big 12 won't last, and Osborne and Pearlman are being proactive, getting in front of the wave that's certain to come.

 
While I don't really want to be in the Big 10 football conference (though I don't care that much), this will be a good move for the U as a whole.
