Arjen Robben made his first start since injuring his left hamstring in the last friendly leading up to the World Cup. Robben showed why he's regarded as the Dutch's best player in the 18th minute when he cut inside the right wing and fired one home with his left foot 20 yards out; classic Arjen Robben. Sneijder doubled the lead in the 84th minute off a beautiful move by Dirk Kuyt who, after drawing the Slovak keeper out of his net, headed the ball over him and passed it acrossed the box to a wide open Sneijder who slotted it in.

Villa scored off his own rebound in the 63rd minute, giving Spain the lead and the eventual win as they will play Paraguay in the quarter-finals. Xavi delivered a beautiful backheeled pass through the penalty box to Villa.

Fernando Torres struggled again and was substituted in the 59th minute. Even worse, Llorente came in and made an immediate impact, narrowly missing 2 goals by way of headers. Will del Bosque start Llorente ahead of Torres against Paraguay? could happen

Ronaldo was virtually invisible. The Spanish midfield did a real number on him. It seemed every time he touched the ball, there were 2 Spaniards covering him.

I'm disappointed by Queiroz's gameplan of sitting back and defending. Portugal never attempted to stay on the attack until Villa scored and by then it was too late. He seemed to instill the same plan used against Brazil, which was great when they knew a tie would see them advance out of their group. But in a knock-out game against Spain? didn't make much sense

Brazil will be without their star midfielder Elano who is out with an ankle injury. Ramires will also be out due to an accumulation of yellow cards.

Uruguay will have to play without the services of defender Diego Godin who picked up a thigh injury. Striker Diego Forlan has been dealing with a toe injury but is expected to play. Ghana will be without Ayew and Mensah, each suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards.

Robinho gave Brazil the early lead in the 10th minute when he slotted one home thanks to a beautiful pass from Felipe Melo which split the Netherlands' defense right down the middle. pitiful defending...

But Melo would turn out to be the villain as he headed in an own goal in the 53rd minute, blocking Julio Cesar from punching the ball away. This was Brazil's 1st own goal in World Cup history!

In the 68th minute, Sneijder headed one in off a corner from Robben, which first bounced off Kuyt's head before reaching Sneijder. At this point, Brazil lost any composure they might have had and in the 73rd minute, Melo was ejected for stomping on Robben while he was on the ground after being fouled.

That was a sensational game. Watched it in a mall and people were getting crazy at the end of it.

You know what though, extraordinary as it was, the team that deserved to advance didn't. The cheap trick the Uruguay defender pulled, that should result in a goal, not a PK...I mean, I can see why it would result in just a PK and a red card, but it shouldn't be OK for someone to, with their team defeated, give themselves one last cheap chance like that. They did run with it and what a sensational goalie they've got, but shame on the player...

Thomas Müller scored in the 3rd minute off a free kick from Schweinsteiger and from then on it was all Germany. It seemed like Argentina was taken aback at the quick score and never recovered from the shock. The Germans dropped back to clog the midfield, preventing Argentina from getting any good looks. Most shots were taken outside the penalty box.

Argentina's defense was ripped to shreds. Now you know why it was such a bad decision for Maradona to leave out Cambiasso and Zanetti. Germany was faster and more athletic; counter to what you would think.
