Can we catch Boise State in the rankings?

I hope Nebraska ends up playing Boise in the MNC. I really don't see why people look down so much on Boise. They beat a very good Oklahoma team in 2006, barely lost to a very good TCU in 2008, and beat an awesome TCU in 2009 (becoming only the 3rd 14-0 team in the history of the BCS if I remember correctly). I mean, really, what is wrong with playing Boise?

If they beef up there out of conference scheduled, they would have a better chance. The big conference's don't have to beef up out of league play as much, there are always a few teams in conference that are rated enough to help SOS.Boise's league not so much. I think TCU has done more the last few years, to deserve a shot if they go undefeated again.

The year Boise beat Okl, reminded me of the 75 Neb team that lost to Okl and the chance for a NC, and went to Fiesta Bowl and lost to Ariz St. Nebraska didn't want to be there any more than Okl did.

GBR!!!

Agree. OU came out pretty flat in that game. Had an early fumble that put them down 2 scores if I remember right. Just had the feeling that OU played that whole game with the attitude of "we'll end this when we need to." It took 2 trick plays to win the game and boise elected NOT to go to OT knowing where the odds were with that.

I generally root for our Big 12 brethren to win. But I have to admit that the OT Statue of Liberty was pretty sweet.

That one game from nearly three years ago bolsters Boise State's credibility in playing with the big boys. It will make it more difficult for voters to leapfrog NU over Boise--should the undefeated seasons come to pass. Friggin' OU Hillbillies.

How can you say such a thing? A lot of voters still vote based on program prestige and such and Nebraska is in the better conference. I don't think boise can beat us on a consistent basis. What they have done is great but they play one or two difficult games a season when the BCS conferences beat up on each other all season.

This would be the worst thing for Nebraska. It would be a lose-lose situation. If we lost, then we lost. It's in the title. But if we won, it would forever go down dogeared because it's Boise with their pathetic schedule. No matter how good the team actually was (don't get me wrong, I think they'll be a hell of a team) people will always see it as a win over a WAC team.

Now about he original topic :dumdum

If Nebraska went undefeated, we'd pass them, plain and simple. Boise got jumped by tOSU last year after tOSU beat PSU(?) and they were still undefeated. Also note how Cincy leapfrogged TCU after they beat Pitt. Both teams were undefeated at the time. And the gap between the Big East and Mountain West is a much smaller gap than between the WAC and B12.

yep...and that is why nobody wants boise in the title game

Sports Nation predicts Boise State vs. Ohio State in the BCS Title Game, so I guess at least Mr. Cowherd believes that they can overcome the non-BCS problem.

All true, yes. Sure, we'd all rather play a big name team. But I'd JUMP at the chance to play anyone for the title--Boise State, Moorehead State, Slippery Rock, whoever.

Cowherd is an idiot....
Yes....he....is....
Yeah, that's why I said "at least". I watch Sports Nation for Michelle Beadle.

I like PTI the best; I think Michael Wilbon often has great insights and unique takes on situations.

I hate how everyone always bring up the 2006 oklahoma boise state game! First off the oklahoma team was not even very good the only reason we lost to them in the Big12C game was because of our lack of execution in the redzone I believe it was like 4 pics in a row inside ou's 20 yard line also oklahoma didnt move the ball past mid field a single time in the 2nd half of the game it was all us beating ourselfs. As overrated as that oklahoma team was, Ou would of beat boise state 9/10 times if they had to play them 10 times.....

my thoughts exactly...does anyone remember the first play of that CCG...fumble by MOPO and Okie gets the ball inside the redzone...we can never get over that and we lose to a decent OU team...we weren't more than decent ourselves but the whole big 12 was down that year
