Boxing, anyone? Posted by: Steve Sipple Several Nebraska players celebrated the end of summer conditioning drills last week in a rather interesting way.

Boxing matches, anyone?

"It was really supposed to be only freshmen," junior wideout Brandon Kinnie said. "We just all picked up and started playing around."

Senior wideout Niles Paul evidently brought the gloves.

The bouts were held in the locker room.

Somebody call security. Sheesh.

Kidding. The boys were just blowing off some steam.

It was Prince Amukamara vs. Rickey Thenarse. Kinnie vs. RB Austin Jones (The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Kinnie said he wanted a cornerback to step up, but that they declined).

Senior RB Roy Helu vs. Paul.

"That was a funny one," Kinnie said.

In the main event -- I use that term loosely -- DT Baker Steinkuhler (6-6, 290) squared off against OT Jermarcus Hardrick (6-7, 320).

"It was just fun to celebrate workouts being done with," Kinnie said. "A little break."

Me too. That does worry me about Yoshi's broken hand, even if it's just for fun. I would also shorten the odds significantly on Prince-Thenarse. Prince is damn athletic. I'd make Kinnie a significant favorite given his height advantage. I can't believe I took the time to think about this.

No and no on Helu-Paul and Prince-Thenarse. Helu has that Islander heritage and wouldn't go down easy. Plus, he would be so shot with something that he wouldn't feel any of the blows/notice if his gloves came off and he started punching bare-fisted. Second, Prince may be and athlete, but he doesn't have the Thenarse "special teams toughness" as I like to call it. I stick by my lines. Anyone know a student-manager who might be able to verify?
