What you were most Impressed/Unimpressed by...

I was impressed with the qb play. Both Green and TMart did pretty well especially for a first game. No motion penalties was nice but overall the o line needs to be better. David was everywhere but the most impressive thing I saw was when the Huskers are in the "TRex" formation. If that isn't a lethal combination then I don't know what is!

I was impressed with the QB play and just the management of the game. For a first game, no matter who we were playing, I thought it was a pretty decent showing from the QB position. I was also impressed with David and the defensive play in the first half. Again, for a first game, pretty good.

The intensity and play of the defense in the second half left something to be desired, though. They'll need to address that and see that it doesn't happen against real threats.

Impressed with: Martinez speed and poise and his passing is about where I thought it would be, the deep ball was a little forced and rushed but that will come with time, I think Kinne played very well and quiet, I think he is a good 3rd down blanket, I thought Cody Green looked good on his Touchdown pass to Niles had some nice touch, Lavonte David was everywhere, Gomes with another great strip play, our defensive ends looked alright, Crick got a good hit on their QB.

Dissappointed: Rush defense. Linebacker play besides David. We kept falling for misdirection, counter and power plays. Where in gods name is Mike McNeill? A few drops on offfense. Niles and PJ Smith fumble, Gomes had a dropped pick, and unfortunately Meredith being hurt, I hope he will be okay. The pass rush seemed a little weak too I thought.

Hopefully we were just play vanilla bcause if we take on a good balanced or good rushing team, we could be in for a fight.

McNeil was in the game more than a handful of times.. However, they almost always used him as a blocker... why even move him from TE imo.
Perhaps the staff is saving his presence for a bigger game...

Impressed with David, Martinez, McKinnie, Dennard, Gomez, Rex, Helu, Marlowe

Unimpressed with the DL not geting enough pressure and stopping the run, the O-line at times, Paul fumble/drop pass, throwing the ball with only seconds left in the game up 49-10.

All in all it was a first game of the year and they played like it. These kids don't get 4 preseason games to learn the schemes and ease into things. No reason to get worked up yet. Lots of speed and talent on both sides of the ball and that is exciting.

I was impressed with Martinez's pocket presence. Granted it was WKU, but he seemed very aware and did a good job buying time when he was throwing.

I thought Cody looked good too. He looked way more natural (for lack of a better word I guess) than last year when he seemed to force things. His zone reads still need work, but he looked good throwing it.

Impressive:

Tim Marlow. Looked solid on ko returns. Had a great little run in the 2nd half.

Lavonte David. He gonna be great. But he is still learning the position. I thought Whaley looked good too.

DeJon Gomes. Picked right up where he left off last year. Awesome ball strip to save a TD. In on a bunch of plays. But on a different series it looked like he blew a coverage that led to WKU's TD.

T-Mart. Wow! WOW!! Good arm, and great wheels. He almost looks like Rex when he hits a crease. Got that extra gear most guys don't have.

Disappointing:

Nile Paul: You got to have a pair of stones to be a D1 football player. But not attached to the end of your arms. Especially if you are a WR.

Ben Cotton: A couple of serious brain farts in the 4th qtr——first a dropped pass. Then a penalty on the next play.

For everyone ragging on Niles Paul..

Yes, his drop and fumble were boneheaded and not acceptable, but don't forget how much of a stud he was on returns. His special teams play raises his overall performance grade quite a bit.

The entire o-line really impressed me. Grant it NU played a very weak opponent but the o-line did eveything really well Saturday night. Here's to them improving week in and week out.

impressed: T-mart...i wasn't big on him before the game saturday...i was wrong

unimpressed: offenses lack of use at TE(to which i include mcneil)...get them some ball dang it!!!

Almost forgot. Biggest disappointment may have been KO coverage. Just look at WKU’s field position on the four kickoffs in the first half: 25, 37, 48, 50. Pathetic. Must have got an earful at halftime. Our 2nd half kickoff coverage was a LOT better.
