Stat Comparison

Here's a comparison of the defensive stats for the 2008 season opener against Western Michigan and the 2009 season opener in Florida Atlantic. IMO, all about the same levels of competition that we played against Western Kentucky:

2008 2009

vs W. Michigan Season Avg vs. Fla Atl Season Avg

total pts 24 28.5 3 10.4

Passing yds 342 233.4 236 178.9

Rush yds 8 116.5 122 93.1

total offense 350 349.8 358 272

A note about 2008 is that while the first game stats vs season average don't look very impressive, remember we played some very potent offenses those years when we got to conference play (Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, etc.)

Edit: The formatting looked really good when I was typing it, but not so much when I posted it.

i was thinking about posting something like this last night, we were actually much more impressive on D this season for the opener than we were last season...

I thought so as well. While we only gave up 3 pts to Fla. Atl. last season, we gave up a ton of yardage to them. The fact that they, a middle of the road Sun Belt Team, exceeded the average yardage by opponents last season definitely says something. I would not be surprised if we saw the same thing this year.
