We'll cherry pick down there, but my observation over the last 11 years is I think the Big 12 expansion has made it tougher for Big Ten schools to go down there and compete," Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said. "We might be able to beat some Big 12 schools in the Midwest on kids, but down there in Dallas we are more likely to lose to a Big 12 school because of the TV exposure and proximity and those types of things. Texas is more of a Big 12-oriented place in general terms."

Well Kirky, you kind of suck at recruiting anyways, so that could be your problem. Maybe your staff isnt as good as ours. :dunno

I almost spit my water out when Jamal mentioned other Texas players coming to Lincoln. He mentioned Aaron Green coming here...then added "hopefully". I think he almost let somehing slip there. He might know more than he is letting on.

it's early - "if" the move impacts us it will take more than a couple of months. the relationships with this years recruits had already began, and most of these commits had already signed long before the change happened. "if" there is an impact, it's not going to be as if a switch just flipped all of a sudden we can't recruit Texas...it's something that will occur over a number of years. for the next 3-5 years the Huskers will still be prevelent in Texas just because historically we've always been there. As the program begins to fade in the memories of and exposure to these kids...then we'll start to see it. if beck and/or some of our other coaches with ties to the state mvoe on we might start to see it. Of course - a couple MNC should keep that exposure fresh.

My turn to be the broken record....

If we continue to win, put out dominant defenses, and continue to generate mass excitement the Texas pipeline will always be there. Coach Beck has so many connections and is so respected in high school coaching circles, especially in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex, that we will always be in the door with kids in the state.

Did you read the article? We had a handful before - not 25 or however many is on the current roster. We'll get kids from Texas - but only time will tell if we'll have them in the droves we currently do. Cherry pick the article for red koolaid statements if you will...but there were a number of quotes in there from our current committments that can't be ignored. Turner stated schools are already using it against us...it's certainly not a "positive" development for our recruiting and can easily be spun as a negative. Mitchel rethought his commitment after the change. A lot of his reasoning behind it was based on the fact that he already was committed...had he not been that might have turned a different route. Burkehead's coach said Rex might not have come here if we were Big10. Ferentz - good or bad as a recruiter - specifically said that it is much more difficult to recruit against Big12 schools when you're in the Big10. Ignore it all if you want, but those are some pretty compelling statements from respected sources...the mouth's of the recruits themselves, Big10 coaches, and Texas HS coaches. We lose Beck to a coordinator position somewhere else, or JP to another school...and you might see Texas dry up really quickly now.
