Well, being in the top ten in the coaches wont hurt. Harris has us 11. I cant believe (actually I can, sadly) we're still behind Oklahoma after we handled a common opponent to whom they lost. Typical crap.
didnt OU beat texas?
We didn't lose to them either
Yeah I'm pretty sure our only loss was October 16 @ Nebraska.
Yeah but Texas didn't beat us, we beat ourselves. So we still won, right?

Right?

that's a wonderful justification for us being ranked higher. :sarcasm
Be a d!(k if you want, but it actually is a justification. Texas wasn't better than us that day, which means no opponent has been better than us this season.

MOD EDIT - Not sure what's going on here, but what I took out could be construed as a personal attack, which is clearly against the rules. Please discuss the issue, not the person. knapplc

SECOND EDIT - put back the original wording, in case there's a question. knapplc

I'd say that we look like the better team than Oklahoma so far. Our loss is really looking more and more like a fluke. And as far as the OU beating Texas thing, well, we handled MO pretty handily and they beat the Sooners... The best argument for the Huskers as a top 5 team (which we haven't earned *yet*) is our defense. Defense wins championships and ours is generally amazing.

The problem with ranking us higher (other than the UT loss) is consistency. We're still not entirely sure which Husker team is going to show up and neither is the media. We've had real penalty and turnover problems, even in games that we handled pretty well. Still, the last couple weeks were definitely impressive.

As a friendly reminder, a personal attack is something that goes after the person, not the post. Let's remember to keep the discussion about football. Thanks.

We clearly should have beaten Texas. But--we couldn't stop their slow QB from running; we couldn't stop them on the final drive; they totally shut down Martinez' running; having receivers that could not catch a pass cannot be ignored; the final score was close only because of the fluke Hagg kick return. We weren't even close to being the better team that day. Oklahoma had a lousy game against Texas and still managed to beat them.

meh. I'm not putting my hopes on it or anything, but way way crazier things have happened. IIRC in 2000 we needed 6 teams to lose between November 26 and December 9, and it happened.

Alabama plays Auburn

TCU plays Utah

& Oklahoma obviously

That puts Nebraska at #7 (just going by USA Today and AP)

Oregon still has to play Arizona which will be the only team they play all year that has anything resembling a defense. Ohio State has to play Iowa.

I don't see this all happening though. The craziest part would be the SEC championship. If Alabama beats Auburn, the only team left to beat them would be in the SEC championship, and the chance that South Carolina beats them twice in the same year is slim to none.

I just hope in our BCS bowl we don't have to face a lame team like VT or Pittsburgh. (Though it would be sort of fun to smash Pederson's team). It would be cool if we could play Ohio State.

(Please don't reply saying "we're getting ahead of ourselves. Nebraska needs to actually win their games first. Yes, I'm aware of that)

Either Auburn or Bama are going to finish ahead of us. I do not see either one of them losing to the east champ.

Oregon is very good. I do not see them losing, but the real chance is Oregon State. Arizona will fold like a house of cards under presure.

I think tonight we jump to 7.

Oregon, Auburn, Boise/TCU, Bama, Utah, Nebraska/Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Ohio State, LSU.

TCU, if they beat Utah, will stay above us.

I think there is a good chance that Oklahoma loses to one of the following, A&M, Baylor, or Okie Lite. If that happens we have no chance of moving up to MNC game.

Maybe you should step down from your mod power-trip and stop editing people's posts. If you think about it, accusing me of making a personal attack, after saying that you aren't sure what's going on in the thread, is a personal attack, is it not?

I guess this will get edited too as it is a bit of an attack.

My mistake. I took you for a reasonable person who wouldn't mind being gently reminded in a friendly way that calling someone a "d!(k" isn't allowed by the rules.

I can see that I was wrong to have attempted to be friendly about this. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways. I have now amended my earlier stance, and adjusted your warning level. Any future attempts at continuing this discussion will result in further upward modification of your warning level.

I don't remember exactly what I said, but I believe it was something along the lines of "you can be a d!(k if you want to..." which is not the same as saying "hey, buddy, you're a d!(k."

Man, some of the MODs on here act like real ______ ...never mind, I don't want to have an upwardly modified warning level. I would just like to note that the policing of the board rules seems to be VERY inconsistent. People argue and accuse each other back and forth, and sometimes they say things in a good natured way to get their point across and the MODs shouldn't be sitting there waiting for an excuse to get their panties in a bunch, especially when it only seems to be directed at some and not others. Your position as a MOD shouldn’t be used to protect people you like and wield it as a hammer on those with whom you disagree.

Where can I check my warning level? I want to take a screenshot to document my upwardly modifying warning level.

In before the lock and/or banhammer.

If you have an issue with how the Mods do their jobs, I invite you to present your case to an Admin either via PM or by emailing them at Admin at huskerboard dot com.

This thread has now run its course. Thanks for your continued cooperation with the board rules.
