International Man of Mystery
Green: Not fazed by Lee getting snaps
Husker sophomore Cody Green said he's keeping the same mental frame of mind despite the fact coaches have turned to Zac Lee to back up Taylor Martinez in both the Texas and Missouri games.

Green said he knows coaches make decisions on which quarterback to bring into the game that are "situationally based."

"Let's just be honest, Zac throws the ball and he throws it well," Green said. "And situationally-based, I understand that. I don't get fazed by it. I sit back and say, 'Well, when my number's called, I have to be ready.' And so I'm not going to change anything that I'm doing."

Shawn Watson expressed confidence on Tuesday that Taylor Martinez will be ready to play. Bo Pelini was asked earlier in the day if senior Lee would be the starter if Martinez could not go.

"I'll have to comment later in the week to see how that all plays out," Pelini said.

Say what you want to about Cody's fumblitis, both he and Zac have been humble, team players. Can't ask these guys for much more than that and we're lucky to have a team of guys like that.

Will be interesting to see the QB dynamic when Turner and Starling get to Campus......and throw in Carnes
Yeah really, If any of the three are better than T-Mart wow. I have heard that Bubba Starling is like a 6'5" T-Mart that already has a well developed arm. Too bad he will more than likely be drafted.

I could be wrong, but I really, really think he could be great at TE or possession type receiver. With the QB's we have and the ones we have coming in(esp if Bubba makes it), I just don't see him seeing the field much at QB.

I really think he could be great at TE. Big, tall, fast, and if he can learn to be physical, he could be hard to stop.

I say redshirt him next year, move him to TE, and get him on the field, or if he can do it without redshirting that's fine too.

Green should have redshirted this year...it's a real shame he didn't. There was no real excuse for it, IMO. Last year there was the depth thing. No such case this year.

I think this staff recruits character. Something the one before failed to understand.(there are exceptions) I have not been much of a fan of Cody to be honest, but his actions speak louder than words. I would like to see him move to another position as I just do not feel he has the ability to be a QB at Nebraska.

Would Zac's elbow not being entirely healthy until a few games into the season be an okay excuse? Not saying that is the case, but it's a possible reason.

Hm, I don't know - but I don't buy into that at all, given that Zac played, and threw passes, early in the year. Just behind Green. If his elbow weren't totally back to normal, why not just give Green an extra two series of garbage time instead, as long as you are burning the shirt? If Zac were out that might be a reason, but in that case, why not ride Taylor unless he is injured, and then put Green in (Harrison Beck was redshirting until KSU '05).

At any rate, it seems apparent that Zac was healthy enough to play, and that he simply lost in a 3-way competition and coaches decided Green was #2. Why that is may not entirely be on the coaches either, but it is something that seems unfortunate now, looking back...

He's a sophomore. Guess what happens next year is Martinez goes down. Most likely we see Cody Green step in (unless we get another good recruit).

Good post. I don't know the answer either. I've heard grumblings about how Zac wasn't 100% at the start of the season, and I'm not sure him playing garbage time is a counter argument against that, we heard in the offseason how it was the kind of injury that couldn't get any worse by playing with it, it just made him play, you know, badly. Who knows? At any rate, while it would have been nice for Cody to redshirt, if possible, I don't think it would ever amount to any kind of benefit for him or the team. Our three deep is all highly regarded recruits (Taylor sort of fits this, but not entirely due to his early commitment) that our coaches feel comfortable with, and next year we're bringing in one or two more (along with Brion Carnes). I think Cody is already starting to embrace the possibility that he might not ever be the man, but maybe not. He might get his shot someday.

I know some people were thinking this or that about Green's maturity last season, but from what I've seen all year, this kid is legit. He is a high character player who will likely be called upon in his career.

I've got to think he sees the field. Maybe it will be a different position, but he'll get significant playing time. There weren't a lot of schools recruiting him to play QB, but there were a lot of schools recruiting him. I'm guessing if any of the incoming recruits fit the mold we're looking for at QB that Green will redshirt and change positions. It's quite possible Green will end up having a similar career here like Tony Veland.
