We now know that Cody Green reads Huskerboard

cody is a worker, and i for one am proud to have him as a husker. if he maintains his attitude and work ethic, he will become a very good player for us. Not everyone can step onto the scene and blow our minds like taylor did. Yesterday, he looked like a sophmore backup qb out there, which is okay. A sophmore back-up is going to make mistakes, but he still has a lot of time to develop into the type of player we want him to be..

I don't have a problem with the approach. Cody was asked to make some throws with the wind in the 3rd and he did. Against the wind they limited the throws. That's just smart to me. Bottom line is the defense went to sleep after we went up 14. We've seen them do it before. Game was over. We let them back in and that will cost us one of the next three games if it happens again.

The cody green "experiment" is fine. As we saw today...teams need backup quarterbacks...even third and fourth string so cody green has a place on this team as a quarterback. Just probably not a starter. Lee leaves next year so cody becomes the second most experienced qb and we need experience with a running qb and the rest of the qbs without any gametime experience. Cody Green is very much needed for next season at least early on so I don't really understand the over-reaction that has been going on.

I agree that we need Cody as a backup for next year. He'll never be a full-time starter, though. The best thing for HIM (not for us) would probably be to transfer.

Well I don't know about that. He's not going pro so after the next 2 years he's done with football. There's no guarantee he transfers and starts at another school.

Green has a good attitude and is definitely a team player, but I really don't think he is a true dual threat QB like some people believe. He runs a 4.7 40, the same speed that a lot of DE's run and slower than most LB, DB. If you watch the way he moves and the way he passes... he is a Pro Style QB playing for a Dual Threat team. I think Cody would have been much more successful in a OU, USC, Notre Dame, style of offense. He would be a great Drop Back passer who can scramble when needed. If you watch his high school film, yes he ran a lot, but his offense really spread the field and he had a lot of passes over the middle or down the field. It was much more pro style than what we are running. The only way teams can run successful Zone Read offenses are when they have 4.4 QB's who have decent arms and a great RB back with them. You put a 4.6 guy in the backfield taking the zone read against LB's who are 4.5 and DE's who are 4.6-4.7 and he simply doesn't have the speed to be consistently effective.

Right now, Taylor is the only QB we have who can execute the Zone Read consistently. However, with Brion Carnes (4.4), Jamal Turner (4.4) and Bubba Starling (4.4) alongside Taylor Martinez, we will have a much deeper bench next year who can execute. But for right now, if Cody or Zach comes in, Watson has GOT to throw in some Spread, Power I, West Coast, downfield passing football. He's got Half his QB's who are built for that, and half his QB's who are able to execute the Zone Read.
