I hate to be a conspiracy theorist, but it's hard to believe this is all a coincidence, especially when I think about a couple of the BS interference calls against Amukamara this year.

I was wondering the same thing, I would also be interested to see the number of incorrect calls and who they went against.

Great post. On that note, did anyone see Nick Fairley's cheap shot hit on the Georgia QB last Saturday? Apparently the SEC office is just as wavering as the Big 12 office when it comes to these sort of hits. Fairley did not get suspended at all btw.

and he made the top 5 for the Nagurski trophy Suh currently holds onto. "Sportsmanship" being one of the qualities that exemplifies the recipient. BS if Fairley wins it.

Fairley also went for the QBs knee (another late hit) later in the game and ended up injuring him. Video of both cheap shots. This idiot is lucky he didn't paralyze himself leading with his helmet like that.

The hit to the back is textbook targeting, and he clearly led with the crown of his helmet. He even got flagged. So far this season, I have not seen a dirtier play than that, yet no suspension. Pretty ridiculous.

I guess if Kansas is ahead it makes it hard to feel picked on. In someways I'd like to know about game changing calls and penaties, but I don't see that stat coming any time soon. We could be middle of the pack but if the calls were critical you would not notice. Also a bad fumble call would not show in the stats.

Or it shows that Kansas is a poor football team with a lack of discipline.

 
Was listingin to Mike Leach on his Sirius radio show the other day and they were discussing Dennis Erickson getting fined by the Pac 10 for commenting on a bad call (a call the Pac 10 admitted was a bad one btw).

Jack Arute asked if he'd been fined or reprimanded while at Tech and Leach went off about a badly called game in which he more or less accused a ref of being a Longhorm homer. I assume it was from the 2007 game vs the 'horns.

IIRC Mangino had also been fined for ranting against refs after a game vs Texas.

Is it a deliberate conspiracy? Realistically:No I don't think so. (disclaimer: At least not in the regular season, we'll see what awaits us in the championship game should we get there-- see 2009)

IMO this league packed with poor refs who also have a Texas/South div bias (be it the longhorns or whoever). The numbers certainly look like that bias has been very kind to whomever happens to be playing us each week. but at the same time, the refs have just been awful in general.

Well that definately shows that Big 12 officials are turning a blind eye to penalties that the opposing team is suppose to get.

Explains why they called a penalty on Legate and not Klein for trying to tear Burkhead's head off his shoulders, you can even see Burkhead trying to push Klein away from him.

It has probably been mentioned, but I would like to see the number of penalties minus false starts, delay of games, offsides, etc and just include passing interference, taunting, illegal contact.

he tried to injure my qp, not only injure(which i'm actually ok with trying to hurt a player with a hard hit, it's a part of the game) but could have potentially paralyzed a qb. so you cripple the kid and spit in his wound and tell him to suck it up.

Nebraska: 70 against, 46 for opponents.

Texas: 65 against, 59 for opponents

Not really a big difference IMO Not a lot of penalties have been called against Nebraska's opponents, but nothing very suspicious here. Of course, conspiracy perpetrators would make it that way, wouldn't they? :P

I posted the following yesterday...

Definitely an interesting stat from Ubben (nice to see him doing some analysis for a change). Just out of curiosity, I wanted to see where Texas sits in all of this.
Texas has been flagged 65 times in 10 games (5 less than NU), and Texas opponents have been flagged 59 times.

When we squared off with TU, we were flagged 10 times, while the Horns were flagged only 4 times. So, take away their matchup with NU, and TU is averaging 6.8 penalties per game while their opponent is averaging 5.4 penalties.

While this further supports the theory that Nebraska is getting hosed, it's still not as telling as Ubben's find. Based on that, I'd say Nebraska may be more of target of shotty calls than Texas being aided by the refs.

Aside from the Klein situation, the only thing I have a true gripe about is the non-calls on holding against our D Line. This, as I've mentioned before, is a long-standing gripe of mine (as in, I've been bitching about this for years, well before we moved to the Big 10). I do not give a damn about "protecting the quarterback." If they're holding, CALL IT.

I doubt the refs have any stake in whether Nebraska stays or goes in the Big XII, so I doubt there's a conspiracy amongst them to call penalties against us/turn a blind eye towards our opponents. The stats are interesting, and maybe there's something to them, but likely not much.

The really true story here is that the Big XII has piss-poor officials for the most part.

Anyone know how the officials are in the Big 10?
