Watson a candidate for the Miami(OH) head coach position

If I was going to observe the game, like Watson said he wanted Martinez to do, I'd watch on Huskervision rather than from the sideline perspective.

... and you just linked the very article where Watson says that, and then says people are being overly critical of Taylor.
Yes I know that. I just pointed out Im not only one observing this. Who cares what Watson says, its all coach speak anyway.
It might be coach-speak, it might not be. But people just use what the coaches say when it backs up their own argument, and anytime it contradicts their point of view, they disregard it as coach-speak. It's reality shopping.

Besides, linking that article to prove that other people noticed Taylor's sideline demeanor doesn't mean anything to me. As far as I can tell, the people driving that train are the people on message boards, which journalists like Sipple and Christopherson read. Threads like this one have the ability to take something as petty as "Well, Taylor doesn't look as excited as I think he should," to the point where they'll ask the coaches about it, if for no other reason than that it's a topic that their lowest common denominator readers would be interested in because it's dramatic and gossipy.
So whats your point????
My point is can we please stop with the bulls%$t topics like Taylor's sideline demeanor. It ranks right up there along with, "Shouldn't Bo be nicer?" or, "What did Lindsey Lohan do this weekend?"
This thread shouldve been locked about 4 pages ago. We got pissing match after pissing match going on this thread, very few posts actually relate to the topic at hand. I tried to stay on topic but its hard when the whole thread smells like urine. The only reason this thread isnt locked is because zoogies is defending his boyhood hero Watson.

What did Lindsay Lohn do this weekend? Im guessing the entire Boise State team as crappy as their playing.
i think a lot of threads move around, take on another life, so this one is like most...no big deal, relax.

...and this weekend she snuck out of Betty Ford I believe.

I understand where the poster was going when referencing Martinez not being able to find his helmet and how elementary that is, but I'd like to point out that it isn't just him. How elemantary is the friggin coin toss? How in the heck do you screw that up so that you're kicking both to start the game and the second half? I coached junior high football and I was a referee. Never in any of those did I see this get screwed up.

Just something I've been thinking about recently - would it be advantageous for Watson to be on the sideline rather than up in the box? Obviously there's a chain of communication to get the plays in and there's fluidity when the offense is on the field. But, what happens on the sideline when the offense isn't on the field? IMO it's more likely a disconnect occurs between Watson and his players. I know position coaches are doing their thing with their players, so what does that mean for Watson and his QBs?

Was the coin toss ever discussed on this board? I had forgotten about it until I read this. My 8 year asked me why they kicked off twice. I thought that was classic.

The Watson-Martinez thing is tiring. The thing that I have an even bigger issue with is that people think an offense relying solely on a big play is effective. You have to be able to grind out a drive once in a while. You have to be able to control field and time of possession. When your team needs 3-7 in 4 quarters to win a game, you have to able to produce. Is Martinez to blame for that....nope. Watson...maybe. Pelini...maybe. Obviously, someone is.

It's cool to watch Martinez, Helu and Burkhead rip off huge runs over and over again untouched when it didn't matter. I would have rather had more modest production when it counted. I think Martinez is talented, but he has been exposed. I don't care about his perceived 'personality' issues. The simple fact of the matter is, he's got a lot of work to do.

Someone asked Watson if he would consider coming down to coach from the field after the the A&M game I think. I remember him saying it wasn't going to happen. Cally brought him down towards the end of 07' I think, and we hung 76 on K-State. I could be wrong but I remember a discussion about Watson not being in the booth anymore a few years ago, and I definately saw him coaching from the field for parts of either 06' or 07'.

Certainly couldn't hurt IMO - sometimes he sees too much and ends up outsmarting himself. It seems like Bo "feels" the game and adjusts accordingly, you can't get that sitting in the booth, and you're players can't adjust as well to a voice in a headphone. Bo can get the defense to adjust because they all see/hear him and see the emphasis he puts on those calls.

Watson won't come out of the booth because it allows him to hide from Bo during the game, not because it improves his ability to direct the offense.

this is the exact sh#t that pisses me off. I don't care if he doesn't like to be on the sidelines if he won't do what is necessary to help this team he definitely needs to go. We don't need another Callahan making excuses on this staff anymore. that time should be gone.

If our team performs better if he is on the sideline he needs to be on the sideline. If he knows we do and he isn't then he gtfo.

i honestly don't think Wats knows what to change up.......he seems more interested in his own comfort zone...just once i would like to see him changes things up a little.

NO!!! REALLY?!

You people really form some idiotic opinions sometimes. You honestly think he would refuse to be on the sidelines because he likes the pressbox better? He prefers the pressbox because it lets him see the game better, which helps him call plays better. I don't think it has anything to do with the air-conditioning, or whatever you think it is. He publically stated last year he prefers the box because of playcalling, but he was on the sidelines for the end of last year to be there for Green when he needed help.

I don't understand how some of you are clueless enough to actually think he would knowlingly do something to hurt the team. Maybe we're better with him on the sidelines, maybe we're not; that's not the point. The point is that Shawn Watson thinks we're better when he's in the press box, and he knows a helleva lot more about the offense than any of you morons.

I see someone has a lot of Christmas cheer this year...

Why not be on the sidelines to help your star QB when he makes mistakes? We've had like 30 fumbles this year so don't tell me he is doing what he can. Also illegal formations late in the year. Also complete bs. This was all season long and was any of this ever fixed by Watson? NO! We have had a defensive presence on the sideline since Bo but nothing on offense other than Bo. So don't give me this he's doing what is best cause he is clearly not.

Wasnt he on the sidelines for some games last year. I remember it being torwards the end of the year, because he wanted communicate with his QBs better.
