If all the offensive staff is back next year...

There will be no changes. We will get a helping of puff pieces courtesy of the Journal Star about how this or that coach spent the offseason seeking counsel from this or that expert. We'll roll through the non-con as usual, and then about midseason we'll see the fruit of the bad omens. Our penalties, injuries, and incompetencies will be even more glaring against MUCH stiffer competition, and Bo Pelini will be on the hot seat by December when we fail to make the first annual Big 10 conference championship.

If this offensive staff is intact by the time September rolls around, what we theoretically wish the offense would be is going to be a pleasant afterthought. The broken record will scratch and clunk on, and the program will suffer a setback.
Watch yourselves! We have an optimist among us

:yeah

Let's assume that no one is fired or moves on. Will we still be running the zone read offense next year? What will our identity be? I'm just curious what you all think.
Sadly I honestly don't see a ton of changes. Bo always preaches execution and pins poor performances on a lack of execution IMO I think he is more concerned with that than with the scheme. I hope to see some screen passes and hopefully we can find a wide receiver that can make plays to take the pressure off our running game.
When is Bo going to fix anything on offense? He has had all year and hasn't done sh#t about it. He needs to let Carl take over the defense and fix the offense. Even if he doesn't know how at least be more involved. Could've tried to fix the effing 30 fumbles or false starts.

Some of the schemes may change I guess.

But expect more of the same next year if there are no changes to the coaching staff: inconsistency, dumb penalties, questionable playcalling, fumbles, poor o-line play, poor wide receiver play, no identity, and not being able to put points up on the board.

These have all become staples of a Shawn Watson offense and next year will be no different.

It all starts with the O line, they are the bread and butter, if they don't do their job then the play fails. Until we start seeing improvement with that group the offense will still be stale no matter who the OC is.

If the offensive staff is still here, I will be watching like I did from 05-07....

Basically following the Huskers and watching the games but certainly not letting it affect my state of mind, such that my hopes and expectations will be so low, I'll know going in we won't be moving the ball and scoring points. The only team I really care about is Nebraska, but I'll just be a shell of a viewer. I don't believe anything wastgrove or cotton say from this point forward, as THE ONLY thing they have delivered is empty promises.

Against all odds, I hope they prove me wrong.

Weights? Conditioning? Schemes?

What's the problem?

You just identified the problem not the solution.

I would say more scheme then anything, I know NU has some big boys there, but looked like a lot of confusion. It only takes 1 to make a mistake to have a play fail, just seemed like they were not on the same page. They have to function as a unit. Maybe it is leadership and young guys? Don't know but they did not improve as the year went on.

The biggest change needed may be mental, lets hope the offense can man up and grow a pair of nuts and hold each other accountable for missing blocks, dropping balls, and fumbling. Hopefully this could create a mindset of toughness and excellence without excuses like the glory days.
I agree. So many mental mistakes on the offensive side of the ball. Where is the accountability that the defensive side of the ball has? When Ricky Thenarse consistently misses tackles Austin Cassidy comes in, next man up. When Sirles jumps off-sides 3 times, when Niles Paul fumbles/drops the ball there is no accountability.

That is the biggest thing I see that needs change and it dosen't seem that hard to fix.

I think it's a bit more complex than this. Actually, their biggest problem lies between their ears. South Dakota State manhandled our OL. They were neither bigger, faster, nor stronger. However, they beat our OL off the ball. Watching Nebraska play this year is a lot like watching high school football. Whichever line comes off the ball faster wins. When our OL came off the ball fast and aggressive, we had a good night offensively. When our OL got beat off the line, we struggled. It's a mental problem rather than a physical problem.

I strongly feel that Shawn Watson should be relieved of his offensive coordinating duties. However, if this cannot be achieved, I would at least like to see Barney Cotton GONE! No contending team will ever be seen committing countless stupid stupid false start after illegal formation after hold after illegal hands to the face. I am sick of the stupid penalties that could easily have been game losers in countless games dating back to the Callahan era. Please get rid of both of these dismal, uncreative, predictable, lacking coaches. But if not both, at least pick the Cotton.

I agree, its all about the attitude of the offensive line. When we were great we had attitudes like this-

Of course I'm not hoping that we have future players end up like him, but his demeanor is what we need to be great.
