Coaches that have never OC-ed a single down of div 1 football are our "best" OCs, quite laughable
Watson and Beck each run different systems (or, at least, we think they do), so it's not that Beck is better than Watson, it's that he's a better fit for Bo's vision of our program.
Anyways, I understand what you're trying to say, but arguing that Brion Carnes is our best QB just doesn't make any sense. We've seen nothing. He hasn't taken a snap, thrown a pass, run an option - he's done absolutely nothing. There is literally no reason to believe he is the best QB on the team.
I've seen his high school tape, I think it's good (other than the fact that he doesn't seem able to throw a spiral), and I think he is a good fit for our system. Not as explosive as Martinez as a runner, but he reminds me of Oregon's Darron Thomas - somebody who is enough of a threat in each aspect of the game to make the offense go while the running backs are the show.
I hope Carnes becomes that guy, or better yet, is that guy today and gets the starting spot in the fall because he's even better than Martinez (the best freshman QB Nebraska's ever had). But there is absolutely no reason to think that is the case, and expecting him to be that guy is just setting him up to fail.
I do think that Carnes could be second string, but that is only based on the fact that I think he is a better fit for the offense than Cody Green, and that he'll have had one more year of practice than Jamal Turner/Bubba Starling. Anyways, I'm looking forward to seeing Carnes, Green, Turner and Martinez all in the spring game.
