Did you want Osborne fired around this time???

You bring up an interesting time in Husker lore. TO had struggled to beat Oklahoma from the time he took over until that magic year 1978. He was not respected for his achievements on the field, after all beating up on Kansas and Iowa State was not what we wanted. I was upset that TO couldn't bring it home and the press crucified him. It got ugly and Dr. Tom had had enough and left for Colorado. I, like many my age, wanted him to go, but not really we just wanted that one win. We cussed in corners, hated the bandwagonning fans that worn Oklahoma gear just to piss us off, not unlike the local Teaxass fans now and had he left, OH my, I believe we would have drove to Colorado and put a bag on his head, tied him up and drove back to Lincoln and said "Your home now, just beat the Sooners!" As a Nebraska fan I can tell you that your Dad was not the minority at that time. But like all Nebraska fans, we love college football, Saturday mornings, gameday, walking over the bridge, seeing that Sea of Red coming to the stadium and knowing that no matter what, TO made the right and tough decision.
Nice username. :) Agree with your post. I later on, coach T.O. had a hard time winning some bowl games and I can remember when many people would say he needs to change, but he did and in my opinion did many changes. Many of his x's and O's can be seen in today's offenses.

I don't remember if it was the UPI or the AP, but one of those polls didn't count the bowl games, and yes UT was considered the 1970 NC in that poll. So we had to share the NC with UT, which was stupid. I remember ND dominating that bowl game against UT.

I remember Shatel roasting Osborne after losses to Washington, Colorado and Miami, and ESPECIALLY after ISU '92. Shatel didn't seem to care much for Dr. Tom, even after the Glory Years.

tOSU claims a share of the 71' based on the UPI as well, when they got smoked in their bowl game.

Say what? Ohio St was 6-4 in 71.

I guess you meant 1970. They were #2 in the final, pre-bowl UPI poll, that had Texas #1. They claim a share no more than PennSt claims a share of '94. I've never heard them claim a championship that year.
