Wow. After the last two years you're not even going to mention the "issue" of our wrs catching the ball? You must not watch many of our games. Obviously you missed last year's Texas game among many others. Gee, I wonder why Gilmore was canned? That was the WORST pass defense in the B12-2. I think we will see Jamal more in a slot role than anything. Hopefully BK steps up and has a big year. The larger issue is not weather the depth is capable but rather if the QB can get the ball to them.Oh, we got some talent on the roster. Stanley Jean-Baptiste, Kenny Bell, Quincy Enunwa, Curenski Gilleylen. Who knows, we might even line up Jamal Turner some at Z to stretch the field. The only reason most these guys aren't proven talent is because we didn't pass much last year. Except against Okie Lite. And that worked out okay for us.It means we have Reed, Kinnie, and um........One espn blog ranks Kyler Reed as the #1 TE in the B1G. Another espn blog ranks our TE/WR unit at 7th in the B1G. LINK Does that mean our WRs are among the worst in the conference? (Or does it mean espn bloggers have their heads up their respective asses?)
I think 7 is a tad low, but we don't have any proven depth.
For my money, Nate Swift is the best receiver we've had in a long, long time. (Mo was pretty good, too.) But yeah, it's been awhile. Kinnie looks like a solid possession receiver. If Turner or Bell or Jean-Baptiste can stretch the field, display sure hands, and give us another deep threat along with Kyler and next to Brandon's big frame for that 3rd and 8 hook route for a first down, we might have something. (And, it goes without saying, if the O-Line gives Martinez time in the pocket...)Wow. After the last two years you're not even going to mention the "issue" of our wrs catching the ball? I really, really hate to tell ya this but guys like Peterson & Swift has been gone a long time now.
I'll tell you who I think had the best hands of any NU receiver: Matt Davidson. The guy was undersized, didn't have blazing speed, but man he could catch the ball. If the ball ended up in his general vicinity it was a reception. Count on it. You put Davidson's hands on Niles Paul and he would've been the best receiver in the draft this year. For my money, Nate Swift is the best receiver we've had in a long, long time. I think the jury is still out on Kyler, at least for me. He was great for us last year, but I think the main reasons for his quote unquote greatness were good scheme moreso than his prowess as a player (I could be wrong). Hell, half of his touchdowns came off the exact same play where all he does is run as fast as he can and be wide freaking open because the defense sold out to stop the run.
I hope he proves that ranking right!
agreed. he was very under utilized. He was one of those guys that just for the sake of "threat" should have been on the field every single down. Just his presence alone changed the way defenses played.I think Mo was the best, we just didn't see enough of him. Nate was by far my favorite though throughout his career here. What he and Peterson and Ganz accomplished in '08 is nothing short of stunning. Talk about overachievers...
