I think it was in the OWH a few weeks ago (could have been some other media) and Crouch was doing an interview as to why he was trying to make the Nighthawks. His reasoning was that he wanted to win a championship. He stated has never been on a championship team from Pop Warner to the NFL. I wanted to write back and tell them thats because there really wasn't ever a team that he put before himself.

Jeesh, da skers. I can't believe you wrote that.

I watched Crouch carry NU on his back for three years. TOTALLY on his back. He didn't have anything even remotely close to the talent that Frazier/Frost or Gill had around them (with the "one" exception of the 99 defense). Not within a country mile.

The guy played banged up and hurt constantly and won boatloads of games for us and what does he get for it? Comments like yours. What the heck do you want from the guy?

The guy was a great talent no question. Very gifted. I don't dispute that. He was also popular as a "buddy". But he also cared more about himself than the team and his track record shows that and a lot of guys on his teams will tell you that. He's not the first QB to have that issue who played for us nor will he be the last. I think its funny that this board has torn down both Cody Green and TMart but are blind to a guy like Crouch. Only difference was he won an heisman. Now. . .had he learned from these things. . and grown. . I'd back off a bit. I hope both Cody and Taylor get their chance to do so and prove themselves better men.

If you're talking about the QB issue early on in his career her, I say bollocks. All the reports have always said that Eric beat out Bobby in camp and practices and was the better QB and better leader and Solich refused to acknowledge it. That may or may not be true, but we're not to say.

Newcombe was better before he hurt his knee, and I think Solich subscribed to the "You don't lose your job to an injury" philosophy, where you come back and you still get a full shot at the job. Crouch eventually won it, but it wasn't before he quit the team, went to Omaha, and Solich had to go there and talk him back onto the team. Crouch actually did what people have only alleged about Martinez.

Live in your make believe world then. Its been a while now so if you ask the right players you'll probably get a much different answer today than you did when it happened. Frank would probably even be more forthcoming today. It was what it was and I don't know why people don't want it to be that way. And besides. . nothing that ever happened in his professional days would leave you to believe if it isn't exactly the way he wants it he'll walk away. For the record we've had several "stars" that left the team to come back a few days later. But. . most of those guys came back with a change of attitude.

I'll be done talking about this issue now before I have to betray the confidence of some good friends, a football coach or two and other people who where in the athletic department at a particular Christmas party in which the discussion became a topic after several drinks. I will say that Frank and Barry really like to Karaoke.

This.

Solich began the path towards his firing right then and there too. His micromanagement of people like Crouch undid him. And he taught Crouch quitting is a way to get what you want, didn't work out so well for him once he tried with NFL coaches though.

Having said that, it was a looooong time ago.

idk maybe im way out on a limb here, but the guy won a freaking heisman trophy while he was at nebraska and took the team to a MNC game!(granted he didnt win it)he also set 32 team records and had a great career winning percentage, and he did it with a less talented team then what the other great qbs in husker history had. give the guy a break! he played his butt off and represented the school well while he was here. maybe its just me but i dont think all this trash talking is even remotely necessary.

I don't think it's trash talking just that too many people are afraid to admit that Eric Crouch wasn't all that he was cracked up to be. They don't want to admit that there is a darker side to how Crouch got the qb job at Nebraska. Sure he may of put up good numbers and was a great player but at what cost? We never ran the option while he was here cause he never pitched the ball to the running back. If it wasn't a designed handoff the rb was never gonna get the ball in any situation. In fact if you stopped Crouch you had us beat. Before you start saying we didn't have any rb's we had a guy named correll buckhalter playing at the same time.
