The Battle of the Banners

Poor Colorado. It's like the Buffs are walking around under a perpetual raincloud - at least as far as their relationship with Nebraska goes.

The latest iteration of Buffy angst comes from their divestiture of all things Big XII - and the cash grab associated with that divestiture. In an effort to raise funds for their moribund athletic department, the Buffs have decided to auction off memorabilia from their Big XII days. The current auction, which closes in about 23 minutes, has two items - the Nebraska Banner that hung in the Coors Events Center during Colorado's time in the conference, and Colorado's own banner.

At this moment, on CU's website, the Colorado Buffaloes banner can be yours for the bargain price of $225. But if you want the Nebraska banner, it's going to cost you $625. That's right - on CU's own website, the Nebraska memorabilia is worth more than Colorado's.

That's kinda sad.

Well, this is interesting. Both the Colorado and Nebraska banner auctions were supposed to end at the same time - roughly 11am our time.

The Nebraska auction is done, and the winning bid was no less than $625. At the time I posted this, Nebraska's banner had eleven votes and the CU banner had five votes. I checked again with about nine minutes remaining, and the prices were the same as I listed in the OP.

But now if you check out the auction page, you find that the CU banner is still up for auction, and that there are two days left on that auction.

Also, even though there have been no new bids, the price has gone up to $400. Are they artificially pumping up their price? That seems a little silly.

OK, looks like I have to retract my statement above. According to THIS ARTICLE on Huskermax, the CU auction was always scheduled to end in two more days.
