Swimming Pools at home

Anyone here have one at their house? In-ground or above? If you do, can you tell me your experience with them, maitnence, cost, do you love it, do you think it is worth it?

Anything at all, thanks

My folks bought a really nice in ground pool. It is a big investment but I love having it, even though it is only for a few months a year. Lots of work to keep it nice but worth it.

What do you mean by "lots of work", like an hour a day, 10 hours a week, what are we talking here? I am trying to get an idea.

my parents have a pool and i have a pool, both inground

depends what you want to pool for.. like for kids, yourself or whatever

i can use mine year round of course but never get in it... i hate pools honestly but my kids love them... but when they grow up its juuuusssst gooonnaaa sit there and eat up money to run the filter, chemical, cleaning, filling it up from evaporation, god forbid the foundation cracks, other maintainence or pool guy (rich m-f'rs if you ask me)... plus i guess in the mainland you gotta shut it down in the winter..... then do you want a heated pool so its not always freezing? we had a solar heated bowl at my moms house that was chill.... i mean there are so many things....

honeslty i say f%&k pools... they are cool for kids and parties but over here nobody really jumps over for a pool party i dont know what its like on the mainland but pools are only popuar for kids.. and when they grow you your stuck with a giant dog water bowl....... i wouldnt get one....

I don't know how much truth there is to it, but my dad always told me I can't have one bc the liability that comes with it and insurance wise, is outrageous. But he was probably just saying that so he didn't have to get one.

I would say my dad probably spends about 3 hours on the weekend(depending on weather) and maybe 2 hours a week.

My dad has a cover, so it is nice.

My parents love it and use it even when us kids are gone. Depends if you want to use it without your kids.

Perfect for chicks then...............I wouldn't own one with my two boys and the fear of them drowning, but I have family that have them and love them. My cousin has a heated one with salt water and a slide, etc, etc. Rich bastard doesn't know what to do with all his money though.

all im saying is dont do it... its a drain and you'll be over it soon.......

the crunstruction the cost, maintenence sucks big 12 balls

Is it really that much work? I just can't picture it being that much work to keep up, what am I missing? People with pools fill me in please.

dude its a big hole in the ground with water.. you gotta build it, maintain it, hire someone if you like (which costs money), upkeep.... electrity, water, mechanical systems, filters, lights valves, increased utilities bill, gate for da kids so they dont drown, plus its a fact that building a pool costs more than the added value to your house if you chose to sell it....

i guess maybe my personality or my location but i just dont see a pool being all that great if your not a kid or someone drunk in vegas...

the only time i liked pools is when i was skating in them or playing water polo or coaching my team

I have an above ground pool and would just as soon put a hole in the side of it than to keep putting money and energy into it. We drop about $100 a month in chemicals, spend 3-4 hours a week on maintenance (cleaning, etc) and we hardly use it. It was on the property when my wife and I moved in and for the first couple of years it was great. Now my kids are older and hardly use it. This year I've been in it once for about 5 minutes and that's it. Honestly...they're a waste of time and money

Thanks for the thoughts.

It really sounds like most of the people with pools hate them!

Maybe its one of those things that is just a better idea in my head then actually in the ground.
