Nostalgia from an old foe...

Walk-on
Husker Nation-

As my university remains mired in the whole conference realignment debate, I find myself looking your way and wishing we too were in a stable place. For the past few years I've enjoyed Tigerboard but in recent weeks it has completely gone over to endless, circular discussions about the fate of the Big XII, and where Mizzou's destiny lies. Football doesn't even get mentioned unless it's a game day, and I think that's sad

When I first heard NU was leaving the Big XII I was angry. I loved hating Big Red. The loathing expressed by your fan base for my Black and Gold was a badge of honor for me. It was a sign that our program had finally achieved a state that merited your contempt, perhaps borne of a grudging respect. I thought your departure was a loss for your school (better football in the Big XII as it precariously exists now) and for the Big XII due to the fact that Nebraska is once again a force to be reckoned with.

But now you guys must be so happy and grateful to be free of all this drama. You have a big game coming up against Wisconsin this weekend that everyone is looking forward to seeing, myself included. The Tiger in me wants to see you lose but the Big XII in me wants you to methodically destroy and expose the Big 10 for the football fraud I believe it to be.

My hope is that your Huskers bring their A-game to the Big 10 so we can really see how the two conferences measure up against each other. Good, honest, hard fought games are all anyone can ask for.

In closing, there are only two things I can say with any certainty:

1. I'm sick of loud-mouthed, greedy, arrogant Longhorns.

2. I miss our annual battles on the gridiron.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted...

this actually explains my hatred of mizzou. i never fully understood. i will be paying attention to where you go and hope for the best. i was hoping that we would be the ou/ut of the north, but must admit, it is sweet to be in the B1G and away from the cancer known as texas and the drama of the big 12.

Pull up a chair and stick around for a while. Thanks for the kind words.

I think you don't have to worry too much - Missouri should find a soft landing somewhere, whether that's in a rebuilt Big XII, the SEC or the Big Ten. I don't see you guys getting shafted.

There were a lot of mixed feelings around here when Nebraska announced we were joining the Big Ten, but I haven't seen too much concern about it for a while. Mostly people here are just damned glad we're in a great place.

Pretty much what Knapplc said, save for the mixed feelings.

Fans pretty much realized that stability trumped tradition, bottom line. Most Nebraska fans have been able to compartmentalize our sorrow for losing our traditional games because the practicality of the environment dictates that we do so and move on.

Perhaps when we square off against a former Big XII foe in a bowl game (for the next two decades or so, bowls with those ties will likely try to prey on our appreciation for nostalgia and tradition in making matches), Nebraska fans can sit down and truly lament the passing of what was some of the most significant history in college football because of Texas' unmitigated greed and hubris.

And Mizzoo, don't worry--Mizzou will land on its feet, likely in the SEC as their 14th. If Mizzou can find success in the SEC, they will ultimately have the last laugh on Texas, and perhaps we'll meet in a bowl game or Big 10/SEC non-con matchup down the road.

Very good post TrueMizoo. I am going to miss Missouri, Colorado, and Oklahoma. Those are probably the only teams I really paid any attention to, and the only "Old Big 8" teams I every had to worry about. The NU/MU matchup was really starting to heat up. To bad that had to come to an end.

What do you have to do to get a login to Tiger Board? I have tried for the last 3 years and always get denied. About a week ago I tried to create an account to wish you guys the best of luck, but was denied again.

You guys would have had an invite to a major conference by now, if your message board format was better. : P Seriously, it is damn near free software.

I dearly loved the Big8 and I always will. It's very sad to see something you love die but that's life.

Wish you well, Missou. It was be great to see you in the Big10! If not, we'll see ya in a bowl someday....

GBR!!

Welcome to the board, do you or anyone else still hear from TuffTiger? Miss that guy. Not sure what he was saying most the time, but always a fun read.

My loathing of the Black and Gold has little to do with the football team and everything to do with the fans.

that's probably true, too. i don't know where i stand. i don't like thinking about feelings, i just know i, too, loathe the black and gold.
