Steve Spurrier calls out local sports columnist

Talk about insolence. It's one thing to have an outburst during a presser, but this was something he planned to humiliate the writer. This sort of crap is exactly what engenders a media culture where journalist play nice for access and refuse to criticize when it's needed. I worry about that here with the OWH and Bo butting heads.

At any rate Spurrier is a piece of you know what...just look how he handled the Garcia situation. Makes a laughing stock of conduct rules even by SEC standards, and then magically has the last straw the same week Garcia's backup takes over. Not even a whiff of integrity in that program.

I could harp on about how this is all quite clear. The kid failed a drug test and was tossed. There was a long history of this "journalist" fabricating stories...etc etc etc. None of it matters if people all ready have their minds made up.

Sounds like **** envy to me...jealous of the success Spurrier has had in his career. Jealousy of SEC teams in general....haters gonna hate.

I didn't understand half of what you guys were going back and forth about. Must be a carolina thing.

Spurrier is Spurrier. My seething hatred for him has gone way down since its not the 90s and he's not the face of Florida anymore.

I don't see a problem with this at all, if he doesn't want to talk to a guy fine and frankly doing this publicly avoids any he said she said backroom bullcrap if he revokes press credentials from the guy.

I found the post that calls sports writers journalists especially funny.

So a Wisconsin fan and a Clemson fan are arguing about a South Carolina coach on a Nebraska board.

I love football season.

Haha. Indeed I did. I'm a proud Tiger. I live near Columbia though and have a bunch of buddies who went to USC, but that still doesn't make me like Spurrier.

Ha and why would you? Especially this year with both teams being so talented. Palmetto Bowl is going to be epic.

i thought for sure it was gonna be about another coach who yells and screams like Pelini does on the sidelines, as there are at least 8-10 who are just as nuts on game days to officials and players. I know it sounds stupid, but I think Pelini just makes nastier looking faces and turns beet red when he screams so that just makes it look worse.

as far as not getting along w the media, well I would venture to guess that MOST coaches would prefer to hand pick a number of journalists who are thoughtful, fair, and consistent to deal with rather than ones who write inflammatory stories just to make the coaches job difficult in their town; on the other hand there are complete schmucks (when it comes to media relations) like Mack Brown, Bobby Bowden, and Rex Ryan who just like listening to the sound of their own voices and schmooze up the media...now THATS nauseating.
