Shouldn't a two loss Oregon (LSU & Stanford) go to the Rose Bowl over a two loss Oklahoma (Texas Tech and Okie State)?

Oregon's signature wins would be Arizona State and USC, Oklahoma's signature wins would be Florida State and Texas A&M.

No one is proposing shattering an untouchable 100 year tradition and no one is saying that it shouldn't primarily be a Big 10-Pac 10 matchup. And any Husker fan who fails to recognize the rivalry we did have with OU (simply saying it doesn't exist anymore) is either too young or is failing to recognize the storied history of Nebraska football. We would no more give up on NU-OU than those in the Pac 10-Big 10 would give up on the Rose Bowl. Nobody is right and nobody is wrong. It is what it is.

Prior to '06 the title game was one of the 4 BCS Bowl Games. Since then a title game has been added & there are now 5 BCS games(The 4 Bowls & the Title Game), with one site being used twice.

Here is the Bowl Tie Ins.

All BCS conferences except the Big East have contracts for their champions to participate in specific BCS bowl games. Unless their champion is involved in the BCS

National Championship game, the conference tie-ins are:

  • Rose Bowl - Big Ten champion vs. Pac-12 champion
  • Fiesta Bowl - Big 12 champion vs. at large
  • Orange Bowl - ACC champion vs. at large
  • Sugar Bowl - SEC champion vs. at large

To have OU in the Rose bowl will be almost impossible. The Big Ten or the Pac 12 would have to send someone to the title game, Okie Light would need to win the Big 12, OU would need to finish 2nd, receive a at large bid (OU would have to be in the Top 14) & the Orange & Sugar Bowl's would have to pass on them. Since the Fiesta, Orange & Sugar rotate the top 3 picks with the Rose Bowl always getting the last pick(Fiesta can't pick OU if they already have a Big 12 team in)

So say good by to ever seeing a Big 12 team in the Rose Bowl (Outside of a title game at the Rose Bowl).

Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think the Fiesta, Orange, & Sugar have priority over the Rose if the Rose losses a conference champion to the NCG.

I believe the priority goes to any bowl with a tie-in that lost a team to the NCG.

Stanford could plausibly make their way into the NCG against Bama or LSU and Okie St could win the Big 12 without making the NCG.

Nebraska could win the B1G and, without Stanford, there possibly is no Pac team left rated high enough.

It is not far fetched at all for a possible NU-OU Rose Bowl.

NCG- Bama or LSU vs Stanford

Fiesta- Okie St vs Boise

Rose- Nebraska vs who?

The Sugar could screw it up because, if the SEC team is #1 and the Pac team #2, then the Sugar would have priority over the Rose to fill their tie-in spot.

But, I gotta believe the SEC runner up, #5ish, would receive more consideration from the Sugar than a #8-10ish Oklahoma.

Don't get me wrong, I would also love to play Stanford or Oregon, but an OU matchup is a distinct possibility.

Biggest problem to all of this might be the Huskers making the Rose to begin with.

Unfortunately you are wrong, The format changed after '06 with adding the a additional BCS Game. Because the Rose Bowl wanted to keep their Big 10 vs Pac 10 tie in. They agreed to recieve the final pick of the BCS. I not saying it couldn't happen, but it would be very odd to see the other Bowls pass on OU since they travel pretty well.

Where have you seen this? The only concession the Rose made is that they had to take a non-AQ team the first time in 2011-2014 if they lost a conference champ, and they did that last year with TCU. Here it is from the official web site. Try a little research before correcting someone on facts.

Also, where Oregon is ranked vs Oklahoma has nothing to do with it if both are eligible. It's whoever the Rose wants to take out of the eligible teams when their turn comes around.

It really comes down to who the other BCS Bowls select. If the Pac 12 or Big 10 Champion is not available. The Rose Bowl can select whoever has not been selected by one of the other BCS Bowls & they meet all the qualifications to recieve a BCS Bid.

 
The Rose bowl wants nothing to do with Oklahoma, nor any other team if there is a quality Pac 12 school to invite.

We all are forgetting that they have a championship game this year. I think Stanford loses to Oregon, and Oregon wins the conferenece championship against Arizona State. Stanford will get an at large invite if their only loss is Oregon.

Oregon is not going to the NC game so Big Ten and Pac 12 ties ins will prevail, the Rose Bowl has that as a given. They will alwasy match the Big Ten and the Pac 12 if there is any way to do it. They have stated so many times.

Can you imagine a Oregon vs. Nebraska Rose Bowl game?! I would love to stomp the snot out of those guys...........they stole a TON of recruits from us over the past 4 or 5 years. I used to get so frustrated on signing day..........."Well so-and-so isn't coming here Oregon stole them from us!"

No way OU is going to the Rose Bowl. Even if Stanford plays there way into the NCG although highly unlikely(they trail Okie Lite by a huge margin). The Rose Bowl will take the conference runner up, assuming it meets BCS qualifications, which the team more than likely will. Okie Light seems to have inside track to NCG. So the Fiesta Bowl will likely take the next best team from the Big 12 which will be OU, assuming they win out and then lose to Okie Light.

Nebraska is going to the Rose Bowl only if they win conference(duh!). However Nebraska can get into the Fiesta and play OU. Here's how. Nebraska wins out and loses the CCG whether its to tOSU or Wisconsin and will be 11-2, more than likely ranked in top 10 BCS. The Fiesta Bowl I believe has the option of picking an at large team over the Big East champ this year. Nebraska has the inside the track over Boise and Oregon because its fanbase travels real well($$$$$$$$$$) and it hasnt been there since gawd knows how long. Nebraska fans will be excited to be back at a big time bowl and will come in droves.

Really people...let OU. vs NU. RIP. I remember watching the '71' game vividly and I can let it go. Lots of rampant insecurity going on here with that one. Cut the cord and fly Nebraska fans...You've got one thing that no other team in major college football can say they have...The best record over the last 40 years. Thats the most important tradition...Do I hear 50? Can I at least get an amen?

HuskerScott--the Rose Bowl, much to the chagrin of the purists, would leap at the chance to bring in an Oklahoma or Oklahoma State if Stanford or Oregon win the Pac-12 and make it to the CCG. The conference drama alone would sell the game in a heartbeat, and OU or Okie Lite would probably wheel out Beebe for ESPN interviews leading up to the game to besmirch Nebraska and add to the tension.

That alone, if OU/Okie Lite are available and the Pac-12 champ makes it to the CCG, would make it happen.

Having said that, while I would certainly stop down for such a game, I wouldn't want it to happen in the Rose Bowl if, for no other reason, than to be good neighbors and good newbies for the Big 10. If an OU/Okie Lite Rose Bowl matchup happens, Nebraska's existence would be blamed for such a pairing, unfair or not, and would not help Nebraska get in/stay in the good graces of the Big 10 Presidents.

Now, if we do happen to drop the Big 10 Title Game bout but still retain a high ranking, then I think an at-large bid is not only feasible, but likely, especially if someone is looking for OU/Okie Lite to play. Again--drama sells, and seeing DoNU square off against embittered former conference mates makes for some good drama-filled TV.

All people are doing is looking back on the NU/OU rivalry with nostalgia. It is not some pining, jilted-ex-girlfriend thing. It was good football and it was fun. There's nothing wrong with remembering it fondly. There's nothing wrong with thinking it might be fun to play them again, just like it's not wrong to think about playing Oregon, Boise St., Kansas, Iowa State, Missouri, Notre Dame, or to discuss upcoming games against UCLA, Miami, or anyone else.

The concept that you can't speak fondly about Oklahoma is more annoying than the people speaking fondly about Oklahoma.
