Coaches get held to this...Have you done it?

So in the thread about Ronnie Stanley in recruiting Coach Petrino was brought up along with how he is a liar and blah blah blah for leaving his jobs to take better ones.

Some people seemed to be mad about it, let me ask you

1. Have you looked for a new job while at your current job?

2. Do you tell everyone at work when you are looking?

3. Do you maybe just tell your friends or family?

4. Do you interview while still working for a different place?

5. Do you get a new job and tell your old boss you are leaving in two weeks, even though they never knew you were looking?

I have done this, have most of you?

Why do so many people get mad at coaches then? Cause they say "I am not interested in any other job"

Heck, dont most of us say some version of that sentence when we are looking?

All true, but with one major difference.

Me leaving my job(s) usually only (temporarily?) affected a handful of people, whereas these guys promise 100's of kids and their parents that they will look after them while many are spending time away from home for the 1st time..not to mention the upheval of their assistant coaches and their families..support staff..local vendors..etc..

Many of these kids plan the next 4-5 years of their lives around the "promise" that you and your "system" will be there and fit them best to maybe get them to the next level.

Not saying they don't have every right to take and pursue other jobs, just that if it were me, I'd want to appreciate the gravity of my decision on not just me and my family, but of my whole community...just part of the job.

All true, but with one major difference.

I guess it depends on the level of work you perform. At my last job I managed 250+ people most of which I recruited. I sold a vision I had, promised a work environment of a certain kind, etc. It was no longer the same job they signed up for when I left and the next guy came in.

I guess the only thing I concern myself is the way a person leaves. Do they do it with integrity and make the change as easy as possible or do they just bolt and say "screw you guys."

That being said. . .I don't think its a big secret that coaches might leave, be fired, etc. If a kid is choosing a school for a coach only it's his fault he's in that situation. He needs to pick a school based on other things than the sport they are playing too.

I'll admit i've never been upfront about it, unless it was an internal position. But also i've never had my boss come asking me if I was interested. Nor have I had the media come interview me about a rumor of me interviewing for a different position either.

That is a good answer! Let me ask you this, say you are looking around for a new job on the down-low and your boss thinks something is up and goes "So, hey, are you looking to leave here?" How would you answer?

I would say "no, what, why do you ask?"

For most of us the closest we might get is a co-worker that you dont totally trust asking you "So, are you looking for a new place to work" and most of us would deny it. I think
