Feeling about Nw loss 2 weeks Later

We still have to beat MICHIGAN and IOWA before 99% of the comments in this thread even matter. NW might seem like a 'good' loss by the time we're done.

The other thing that tugs at me is I know that with each year that we fiddle around being irrelevant, it makes it that much harder to recruit! The glory days of the 90's fade farther away almost to a point that we sound like ND fans.

How have we been irrelevant, especially in the past year (or week, for that matter)?

Nebraska was at the forefront of conference expansion. Nebraska was a Top 10 and 15 team this year, and if we win out we'll be Top 15 again.

And comparing us to fans of a school that sold their tickets to a visiting top team, have had multiple losing seasons since the 90s, and that is routinely outclassed by Nebraska in TV ratings, despite having their own network? I don't know if this kind of thought won you major accolades back on 'Pedia, but here that's just asinine and unjustifiably pessimistic.

Plus, if you were a fan for as long as you said you were, then you would know that all coaches, including St. Tom, lost to unranked teams they should have clobbered. It's college football--a game being played by kids that were, mere months ago, unable to legally buy porn, play the lottery, or smoke it up.

Yes, the Northwestern loss sucks. But there's no reason to go all maudlin about it--the future is brighter than ever before.

Only a blind homer like you would not see what's plain as day: When I say NU is irrelevant - I'm not talking about B1G expansion. Shyaaaa..... and that's "on the field football stuff". Look Einstein, this is NOT about saying we ARE ND - it's a valid comparison bec. if you go talk to any body who's a fan of a Top-10 team like LSU, Bama, tu (yes, even tu), OU or whoever, NU is not thought of in that same regard as being a NC contender.

Do they know about NU and TO - uumm .... yeah. But if that gives you the "warm and fuzzies" about NU being relevant, then you're not very informed.

Who do we have to be relevant to to be "officially" relevant?

I don't see how I'm not very informed when I provided statistics and facts to prove that even the greatest of coaches have problems beating the teams they should beat. That's the very nature of College Athletics.

And are we talking about the same Oklahoma that lost to Texas Tech on their home field--the same Tech that was clobbered by Iowa State in Lubbock the following week? If so, why again would OU be considered a NC contender?

+1 to this, sir. This is a perfect example to blow Austin's reasoning right out of the water - but you won't get anywhere with him. I'm sure that this entire board knows that already.

I'm still irritated, as well. As I was watching NW prepare to mount another unlikely assault on our endzone, I mentioned to my GF that there are only two people on that team that can really beat us- Colter and Ebert. I jokingly asked her if I should call Bo at memorial stadium a few miles away and tell him this so he could double team the S**. A couple plays later, Ebert is running his a$$ off after receiving a pass with no one within 6 yards of him. 81 yard soul-killing play.

I know they had a great running drive, and we should have stopped it, too. How we stop Cousins and Cunningham one week and look like every bit of a top 5 team, then forget to double team the top NW guys the next week is beyond me. Did they not watch any NW films? It's the same crap every 3rd down. Stop 2 guys and they can't beat you.

And, yes, IU has no chance in hell. NW might do it, otherwise, I think we'd all be happy with a solid 10-2, no coin toss CCG, and prayers of an at-large BCS. In my opinion, we'll deserve it, and very possibly get it, if we can beat Michigan and Iowa at home. If we can manage this, the bowl itself shouldn't be a big problem, given that the really dangerous teams (1-6) will be safely tucked away in the top tier BCS bowls.

It doesn't work that way, the BCS bowls still have conference tie ins. The BCS bowls then have a pre-determined order on selecting the matching opponent. The Fiesta has the tie to the Big XII and that is where many think NU may end up, against OU most likely. That would be a fun game, but a tough one for sure.

Thanks Undone--appreciate it.. The shuttering of 'Pedia has been both a blessing and a curse for this board as a whole, it would appear.

Here's hoping that time and moderation allows the board to separate the wheat from the chaff.

If Oklahoma beats Baylor this weekend (likely) and Kansas St. beats Texas (possible) that would knock Oklahoma down to 2 wins and take Oklahoma St. down to one.

That means, if we can beat Michigan, we'd be with LSU and Clemson as the only programs to beat three BCS Top 25 teams (and Clemson is hanging on by a thread with wins over #24 and #25). With a likely Auburn loss to Alabama next week, that could leave Nebraska and the LSU/Arkansas winner as the only two going into the conference championship games (possibly with Clemson if they beat South Carolina and Florida St. stays in).

I'd say that a long way from irrelevant.

IU has Big 10 talent basically only with their starters, they have no depth. Now, they had a buy week those guys are fresh. They are in a position where they have NOTHING to lose, they can go for it on lots of 4th downs, they can lots of trick plays.

This is not a game I would sleep on. First year coach gets big time win, it happens all the time.

We will do our best to best MSU. Yes, the Northwestern win over Nebraska in Lincoln was the signature victory. Northwestern has managed to stun Iowa the last few years, and I'm sure beating Nebraska next year will be much harder. It was redemption for the 2000 Alamo bowl slaughter. I hope to see a lot of fans from Nebraska in Evanston next year Oct 20, 2012, enjoy the campus beach/sailboats and maybe a convenient trip to Wrigleyville or downtown on the L train. I hope Nebraska beats Iowa soundly and represents the Big 10 well in whatever bowl game they end up at.
