The Immediate and Short-term Future

How in the hell was this the best shot when we were given the toughest schedule in the conference? Don't be so pessimistic....next year is already shaping up to be a better opportunity for the Huskers.
where have I heard that before?

EDIT: Are you a Royals fan too? :P

In the B1G it would appear that Michigan is hugely on the rise and is going to soar to the top of the conference. Ohio State has all the talent, is young, and now has Urban Meyer. I'd think that for the immediate and the short-term foreseeable future (say the next 2-3 years anyway) that Michigan and Ohio State will pull away from the rest of the B1G and create a top-tier that the others will not approach. One of these two will win the conference every year in the foreseeable future.

Wisconsin and Michigan State lose a lot to graduation this year and will likely regress some. Neither will likely challenge the big two (OSU and Michigan) overly. Penn State and Nebraska are next in the pecking order and it is an unknown as to whether these two programs will catch up with Wisconsin or Michigan State.

I predict that the conference will soon be (starting next year) dominated by Michigan and Ohio State. Our victory over Ohio State this year will be the last one for a long, long, long time. What we saw at Michigan is what I think will become commonplace.

The Huskers will be fighting for positions between #3 and #5/#6 with Wisconsin, Michigan State (who may be heading down as Michigan once more ascends), Penn State and, perhaps Iowa.

I would not be surprised if, in say 2020, we look back and see the Huskers still w/o a conference championship. This year was likely the best shot we had... and it was somewhat a long-shot. The probability of a Husker conference championship in the B1G will be much, much lower in the future --- starting next year where Michigan and Ohio State pull away from the pack.

Interestingly, on ESPN last night when they discussed Meyer's going to the B1G, the question was "Will OSU now dominate the Conference?" The answer was likely not but that they would be favorites very soon... they mentioned, at length Michigan, mentioned Wisconsin, then talked of MSU and then PSU... no one... not one person mentioned Nebraska...

Ouch...

As were things in the B12, I am afraid so too will be things in the B10.

Next year? You could make an argument for 2013 but how is next year going to get any easier? We lose David and Dennard. We have the same schedule and Michigan should clearly be the favorite based on who they are bringing back. Maybe your reasoning is just because we get Michigan and Wisky at home? Please elaborate.
You answered your own question....because we have them at home...that does give us a slight advantage. We may even be better in 2013 with how young the talent is on the team. Stay positive bro....how we lost BLOWS a$$! But with Pelini....I believe NEB is headed in the right direction....his record with us speaks volumes about what he can do, but also his weaknesses as a first time coach.
Not sure if a slight advantage is enough to overcome the a$$-whoopin we received at the hands of those two teams. The biggest thing we have going for us is that Wilson graduates.

There was a recent article posted on here comparing OU's previous losses and how well they fared the next year because of young talent. Now...NEB isn't OU and NEB doesn't have Bob Stoops, but Pelini has been getting us 10 win seasons now and that speaks volumes in itself. I can't believe some people want him canned....its just downright crazy in my opinion..

Not a Royals fan lol. I am just compiling my own conclusion based on how the team faired against top defenses this year with the young talent we have....we did well against Ohio St, Penn St, and Michigan St with a young team. I like our chances next year because we have Michigan and Wiscy at home....

Well next year Michigan and Ohio State will be much better than they were this year. Michigan State and Wisconsin may be lesser --- not sure. The NU record may be a game better or so than this year. But I am not arguing that our record will get worse or that, overall the schedule will be tougher --- I am arguing that winning the conference gets much harder as Michigan and Ohio State get much better at a rapid pace. Those two are perched to pull away from the pack. This year was the weakest Ohio State you will see for a long time. And it was the weakest Michigan you will see for a while as well. Both teams will be markedly better next year and in the immediate foreseeable future. Toppling either of them in the future will be a much, much, much harder task than it was this year.

Winning the B1G in the immediate future will be much, much, much tougher than it was this year. This year was the weakest that the top of the B1G has been or will be in the future.

Interesting thing about the Big Ten, it's WAY too hard to predict. We could have a conference championship next year, and we could still be looking for our first one 15 years from now. Just enjoy the ride.

We were given the hardest in conference schedule out of all the teams in the B1G. We were the only team in the conference who had to play Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Iowa.

The closest team to matching our schedule is Ohio State and last I checked, they were 6-5. They even had the advantage of hosting Penn State and Wisconsin whereas we had to travel to their hostile environments. Our schedule was tough and yet we still found a way to keep ourselves in the race until early November.

Where does this....NEB offense sucks or the o-line can't block come from? Is that a general statement? Overall? Because that is another bogus statement....for these reasons:

1.) We compiled 186 yrds rushing on the ground and produced close to as many yards on Penn Sts defense as Alabama produced at the beginning of the season on them. 198 rushing yards to NEB's 186....that's impressive considering Penn St's defense.

2.) NEB beat the #9 team in the nation 24-3....and the score could've been much worse...could've very well been 31-0....that's impressive

3.) We came back from a 21 point deficit against a top/talented rich defense in Ohio St. Once again, impressive

These 3 main points I find quite impressive considering the young players we have on offense and defense. I will throw in there though....we need to be a more consistent team....everyone could definitely agree with me on that...I hate the Jeckyl/Hyde performances...

Eh....I think it will be either just as tough as this year, or even a bit more favorable for the Huskers. These teams will get better, but I have faith that the Huskers will get better as well. NEB already improved as the season went on....the sad thing is...that everything that could go wrong, went wrong when NEB faced Michigan....it sucks...

If we go 10 wins this year....that puts NEB at 3 consecutive 10 win seasons.....only a handful of teams our currently doing that...
I post this comment a lot, but I am sick of people using the win total to justify Pelini's coaching. It's not about the number of wins, it's the losses and the nature of them. Losing to NW at HOME, blown out by Michigan and Wisconsin. Until we can consistently beat teams we should beat or hang with teams we are fully capable of hanging with, I am not satisfied.

I'm not calling for him to be fired, but it's not a black and white number of wins issue here. It's the inconsistency and inexplicable losses that have become Bo's calling card that have me concerned.

And we may have been a damn 2 loss team if we didn't underestimate NW.....aaaah!!! damnit...

I hate how we lost also man....but it doesn't mean we're going to lose like that next year....go look at OU and how they come back after getting pummeled one year and losing 3 to 4 games in a season....then the next year they go 10-1 or 9-2 and take a conference championship...NEB isn't OU...but teams do it and I am just providing an example.

Motivating with fear is not agreat way to be managed. i do not no why we can't play a full 4 quarter football game. Most of us expected the 2-3 loss season, but not losing at home to NW.

But we probably will lose a game like that next year. Look at Bo's track record. ISU 2009, TxTech 2009, Washington 2010 (bowl) , SDSU near debacle last year, etc.

If you factor in the early 3-4 cupcake games every season (not so much this year, but still Tenn-Chatt and Wyoming.....), 10 wins is not that impressive.

Every team has their cupcakes....if your team can battle it out against stiff competition and win week in and week out and compile 10 wins....I find that to be impressive.
