Pelini: No need to rush on new hire

I personally think Bo has had a plan all along, dating way back to many days prior to Marvin announcing his resignation. Now it seems to me that Raymond was a temporary hire all along. Now his may have been a year or two shorter than anticipated, but I feel that Bo was basically using him as a bridge until he can get ahold of the guy he wants. Maybe it turned out that he can, and that is why he encouraged Raymond to head for his home. And maybe this new hire wont quite be available until summer or so. Who knows. I just have a feeling that we'll be very happy with this choice, and that it was probably the plan all along. Just a thought. Bo has a plan and is putting pieces in place little by little. Folks need to understand that it takes some time to develop chemistry within a group, and I think Bo is off to a good start in that by getting guys he wants. What good is a big name if they dont believe in the same philosophies or get along well.

interesting, Bo is picking up some very inexperienced guys for position coaches..........that no one else is clamoring to hire.. very different philosophy, compared to the big name coaches he is competing with...........gulp.

Considering one of THE top programs just cherry picked one, and it took two offers to do so. And the guy was a "questionable" hire to begin with. :confucius

Fact is, for some if not many, Bo is on this status that he simply cannot do a damn thing right. I believe a national championship at this point wouldnt even please some folks.

so, who else was pressing to hire Raymond when we took him last year?........it's just a fact, Bo has picked up a bunch of pups with little experience, not just one like Less Miles took........you boys sound kinda butthurt over a trend by Bo to hire some unknowns?.........get over it, it's an honest observation of Pelini hires.......like shopping at WalMart.

Yea, hell Bo why get in a hurry to hire a secondary coach. First year, first time defensive coordinator Papuchis can not only handle the coordinating job, but he can help coach the secondary too. Yes, that should be very effective? I guess since Bo coaches the defense anyway, maybe Papushis will have more time on his hands then I know about. With a unit that struggled as much as the secondary did last year, and the loss of Dennard, you would think we would want someone to individually work with those guys. A coach who can really focus his time on the position itself. What do I know about it though, maybe Bo can handle being HC, DC, and Secondary coach. With all the coaching experience Papuchis has (sarcasm) this team should come out of the gates blazing! We probably don't even need any position coaches on this staff. We should invest more money into experimental cloning of Bo Pelini, clone 6 more of him, and fire everybody else. No I know, let's move Barney Cotton over to secondary coach! That would make the most sense.

First of all, who the heck +1'ed this?...

Second, here's more than likely the reason Bo isn't just going to jump out and hire a guy right away. He can either have a quick search, make an uninformed hire, and then have his DBs try to adjust to the new coach and his schemes just a short amount of time before the spring game,

OR he can take his time, evaluate a larger pool of potential coaches, and make a good hire shortly after the spring game. He could also make a hire before the spring game and have the new guy hang around through the game, get familiar with the players, and learn the dynamics of the coaching staff THEN take over after the spring game. This would be my preference, much like the way Bo handle the Coach Kaz hire.

Urban Meyer snatched a good DB coach from Cincinatti. I saw this was his third DB coach he has hired since taking the job. One, I can't believe coaches jump on board like that, then abandon ship in just a few weeks. It disgusts me personally. They are certainly hoping this one sticks around. Two, it makes me see both sides of the coin on Pelini not being in a big hurry. I would love to get the right guy the first time and have him spend 4-5 years here coaching the db's. I'd love it if the first guy we picked was soon and ended up being the right one. You just never know though. I'm sure Pelini wants to make damn sure that he's getting a guy that is committed to this program and committed to excelling at his own position. We don't need anybody looking for an immediate springboard to some other job. This could be why hiring from within, or a former Husker player may be a good call in this one. Someone with ties. We don't need an Ohio State like situation happening down here.

Bo teaches them up and just when they are beginning to provide quality value to us...they leave. I think JP will be the same way. Hiring a young DC is an investment that isn't going to pay dividends short-term. And when JP leaves in 3 years, then what was the point? Hire a highly experienced coordinator that might have peaked but can provide value from day 1. He still leaves in 2-3 years (Zook, Stoops, etc) but at least you got something out of the position. It worries me this might be something we're going to start seeing more regularly at Nebraska. Bo trains em to their peak and then some other team gets to realize the value of that asset, and the Huskers are back to square 1 with another "up-and-comer" for Bo to train.

You assume though that every coach will leave. While I conceed that most young coaches will jump at the chance to go to another school to be promoted, we don't know what is in Pap's head. He may end up being Bo's version of Charlie McBride.
