Juan Montoya crashes into Jet Dryer, causes fire at Daytona 500

I cannot believe there isn't better camera coverage of that wreck. How is every square inch of that track not covered by a camera?

I seen that it was amazing both men walked away uninjured. But I bet the driver of the jet dry truck will be sore as hell today.

Yeah I found the video to be a little disappointing, Mike & Mike and Jim Rome talked it up way too much.

Normally every square inch of the track is covered under race conditions, however at that point in time, under a caution, the cameras in that area were out of position because there was only one car in the area. Too bad he didnt have an in car cam. What a freak deal.

Even a track the size of Daytona, you would think they set up enough stationary cameras to cover the whole track, even if it is wide angled out and far away. I thought that was a little odd as well that they didn't have better video of it. The crash itself was probably something we will never see again in our lifetimes. Just the odds for it happen a half a second sooner or later and he simply would have hit the wall. What is real scary to think about is if there had been workers out picking up debris and a car did that and ran over them. It's also lucky Juan didn't get his car mangled up and stuck with the jet dryer truck because they never would have got him out of there in time as they had a hell of a time getting that fire out. He would have been burned to death.

In related news, NASCAR banned Chad Knaus for six races and took 25 points from Jimmie for cheating once again. Suck it 48 team! :P

You would think Knaus would know by now that they are going to carefully scrutinize that team especially at the biggest race of the year... I know it's all about pushing the envelope... but really?? At the 500?

I never see Nascar discussion on Huskerboard. Everyone thinks I'm a redneck because I follow Nascar....Oh Well. I was at the race in Daytona. Pretty decent time.

Why bad camera coverage?

For me it is pretty simple. It was under caution. I imagine that the camera operators are not filming a single car driving down the back stretch while the yellow is out. Had it been under green, I'm positive there would be footage.

Chad Knaus being more careful?

He has been caught far fewer times than he has actually cheated. Remember...you are not cheating until you get caught.
