Congratulations, Rickey. Good luck!

L.A. Jordan picks Rickey Thenarse to take over program

At 23, Rickey Thenarse figures to be the youngest football coach in the City Section this fall. He has been named head coach at L.A. Jordan High School, where he was a standout running back before playing for Nebraska.

"I just went in and applied for the job," Thenarese said.

Thenarse graduated from Nebraska in 2010, then tried to make the Seattle Seahawks last year. He will be a walk-on coach for Jordan while trying to become a substitute teacher.

Former Jordan Coach Elijah Asante, who coached Thenarse, said he believes his former player can be an outstanding coach.

"He's going to be a great coach," Asante said. "He's been a ballplayer all his life."

Good luck to RT. All I hope is that he keeps his head on straight and I think the sky is the limit. I'm rooting for him.

I think Ricky will be great. More in the regards of the life lessons versus the Xs and Os. He was adament about not falling into the gang lifestyle that claimed so many of his friends and own family(two brothers). He can be a great role model to show his young players that there is so much more to offer outside of "the box you are in". Best of luck to him.

Best of luck. Coming to NU after avoiding the pitfalls of gang life is a great story for the young men he will be mentoring. I wish him the best.
