HUSKER FREAK
Starter
I know this probably doesn't belong here, but this is really bothering me. when I was watching the CWS Florida State was saying the same prayer? WTH is with that?
Bear in mind that the "Husker Prayer" isn't and never was a Husker product. It's based off a poem, and originally had nothing to do with Nebraska.
Same for the "tunnel walk song" that we use. It's not ours, never was, and in fact the Chicago Bulls used it before we did.
It is what it is.

I have never ever heard it said before until the 96/97 team said it. With Grant Wistrom leading the prayer.
Where have you heard it before at? Yes the Bulls did use the song before NU
Prayer of a Sportsman
Dear Lord, in the battle that goes on through life
I ask but a field that is fair,
A chance that is equal with all in the strife,
A courage to strive and to dare;
And if should win, let it be by the code
With my faith and my honor held high;
And if I should lose, let me stand by the road,
And cheer as the winners go by.
And Lord, may my shouts be ungrudging and clear,
A tribute that comes from the heart,
And let me not cherish a snarl or a sneer
Or play any sniveling part;
Let me say, "There they ride, on whom laurel's bestowed
Since they played the game better than I."
Let me stand with a smile by the side of the road,
And cheer as the winners go by.
So grant me to conquer, if conquer I can,
By proving my worth in the fray,
But teach me to lose like a regular man,
And not like a craven, I pray;
Let me take off my hat to the warriors who strode
To victory splendid and high,
Yea, teach me to stand by the side of the road
And cheer as the winners go by.

I actually have seen this prayer before and forgot about it until you posted this. I was thinking a student athlete made it up at NU it was just revised their. It was said exactly as we say it though but oh well no big deal.Prayer of a Sportsman

I hope it wasn't the psychologist who screwed up the grammar.Landlord of Memorial Stadium said:Jack Stark, the team psychologist that helped Tom develop the Unity Council, tweaked it to be more Nebraska-centric, and that's what we have today.
