McKewon: Pelini's process has bits of ‘Sabanization'

LINCOLN — Bo Pelini doesn't have much of a presence in last week's Sports Illustrated college football preview. But if you read the main story about Alabama coach Nick Saban and his plan for success, you saw echoes of the Husker head coach.

Andy Staples wrote about the “The Sabanization of College Football,” and how coaches like Florida State's Jimbo Fisher and Florida's Will Muschamp want the “blueprint,” as Muschamp puts it, to winning national titles as easily as Saban has.

Saban calls his formula “The Process.” Sound familiar?

I was surprised the SI article did not include any Pelini references since it featured coordinators from everywhere else on that highlighted team.

I was surprised it didnt give the credit to TO who did it more than 30 years ago.
Probably because sports media today is all about the "what have you done for me lately" ideal.
Yeah I was listening to XM College sports yesterday while I was on the road and they had Switzer on and he was talking about the difference today in football and why it was so easy for he and others like TO, Bobby B, etc to be successful when really all they were doing is recruiting the best athletes, having off season workouts, training tables etc. It was interesting to also hear him talk about recruiting unlimited numbers of guys and how they had no contact rules like they were today. It made the job so much easier. Now everyone is doing the same things, recruiting the same way and they are so limited on what they can do its hard for a coach to win regularly. He stated on top of it there is lots of pressure to cheat, cut corners or let ethics slip and lie to recruits to get them because coaches are paid so much and they are expected to win. I guess it made me more aware of how well our coaches are doing when the game has changed so much in the last 10-20 years.
