A Trail of Ink: Tracking a Rare Tattoo-Related InfectionBy DR. KITTU JINDAL GARG, ABC News Medical Unit | Good Morning America – 20 hours ago

An article published Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine describes how this one dermatologist helped connect the dots in an outbreak of tattoo-related atypical skin infections.

Dr. Byron Kennedy, public health specialist at Monroe County Department of Public Health, took over the case from Goldgeier. Kennedy first confirmed the results by repeating a skin biopsy on the patient. Once again, tendrils of mycobacterium chelonae, a type of tuberculosis-related skin bacteria, showed up in the sample.

Damn! I've been thinking about getting a tattoo for years but I always think something bad like this will happen to me.

i remember hearing that is was something wrong with the ink... tattoo ink isnt regulated i believe here in the USA but a lot the bottles have that EU tested and approved labeled cause over there the ink is tested...... i wouldnt really worry about it if you wanted to get tatted... just go a good shop.. .ask to see the autoclave.... look at the portfolios and go with the best guy or girl there..... even if you have to wait a couple of months or so....

if you are a tattoo newbie most shops who are legit and friendly (the kind you want to go to without the atitude) will walk you around...... explain stuff etc... look to see how neat the place is... i say 99.9 shops use single use needles.... the autoclave is the machine they use to clean the tattoo machines/guns and a lot of the equipment in the shop... it steralized everything using high pressure temp steam to kill everything... if the autoclave is busted or looks dirty stay away...

most good shops are pretty clean cause you have to remember the tattoo artist doesnt want the chance for him or herself to get infected with any diseases also....
