He would have been canned years ago at any other school that actually had expectations. In the two seasons they are 1-1 vs NU with one game being a "pick the score" game by NU where Iowa pretended their QB got hurt so they could put in the backup and Kirk could take heat off his kid AND they faked a head injury to that kid that Trey Palmer was abusing. Go hawks! That's fair, but what have these expectations gotten us honestly? I'm not saying I don't want to have them, I do, but chasing them has arguably killed this program. Iowa knows what they are, and they've had success for their fans. They know their ceiling. Honestly, what's wrong with that? I respect it. Better than being a delusional middle tier school who will never win a natty. Not every school should realistically be shooting for more than 10 wins if it's never going to happen. To even get to 9-10 wins some of these schools need stability, hence Kirk being there forever. THAT is the point, not yours that every other school would have fired him by now. We would have yes, but look at us for the last decade after we fired Bo. 2 1 Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
My son in law, who is an Iowa fan, (I know, he’s still a great guy though) is so pumped fully believing Iowa is going to the playoffs this year. He claims he’s willing to bet $100 on it. He thinks their QBs are amazing and the new OC is the answer to all their problems. If he wasn’t just out of college, I’d take him up on it. 1 Quote Link to comment

Their defense is amazing, offense will be hot garbage. I won't be shocked at all if they made it, but equally won't be shocked if they win 6-7. For the record, all of this Iowa talk, I bet my best man this offseason (die hard Iowa fan, part of the reason I actually pay attention to them), that they would be under 9 wins. He took 9 or over. 1 1 1 Quote Link to comment
teachercd
Again, they don't have an amazing defense (neither did NU last year), when you play Minny and Indy and Illinois and PU and NW and Rutgers... And when your offense only runs the ball and punts... you end up with low scoring games. Iowa played 3 good teams last year, got shut out (I think) by all 3 and all 3 scored pretty much right at their season total. Plus PSU, Michigan and Tenn didn't even have to open up the playbook because the game was over once they scored 10 points. 2 1 2 Quote Link to comment

You can't talk about the differences in schedule without also talking about results in common games. It's not some love fest with some Husker fans for Iowa, it's simply me trying to point out that they are 1. Better than you give them credit for, and 2. Better than Nebraska for a decade now. Over the last 7 years, Nebraska makes a strong case for worst team in the P5. You don't compare yourself to the worst team. If you want to have an honest discussion about how good Iowa is as a football team, then Nebraska is irrelevant to the conversation. 3 3 Quote Link to comment

I don’t know how long this convo is going on but I don’t think teach was saying Nebraska has been better during this time. If he was then it’s fair game. Quote Link to comment

I was simply bringing it up because we're on the Nebraska board, in a thread about our opponents for the season. Comparisons are natural in such a thread. My pushback was to those simply throwing our that Iowa is so lame all the time, when we (as you stated) have been utter garbage over that same time. People in glass houses and such. 1 Quote Link to comment

Wouldn’t he be better off placing that bet at a Sportsbook and get odds vs 1:1 with you. Plus you wouldn’t have to feel bad about taking his money 1 Quote Link to comment

When Nebraska fans act all high and mighty about Iowa while we've sucked and they've owned our asses, and we are talking amongst each other as Nebraska fans, then our comparative failures are obviously relevant. I suck at golf; I'm incredibly stoked at the prospect of a triple bogey. My buddy is pretty good at golf, almost always beating me by at least 2 strokes every hole. Even if I used to be the best at golf decades ago and expect to be great even though I suck, it's obviously lame as hell for me to laugh at my buddy and talk about how bad he is. 1 Quote Link to comment
