12-Team Playoff On the Way; 14-Team to Follow

It's all changing. Money flying all over the place. Everybody involved wants their hand in the $$$$ stream. Longer "seasons" as the playoffs expand. More football for more fans around the country. Even more overseas. And of course the actual broadcasts of all those games are changing, as we'll likely be seeing subscriptions for this and that conference games being offered, and/or various other games deemed important enough to maximise revenue. More millionaire college kids who may or may not get a college education along the way as some of them stay with one school for a whole season or two and some who do not.

A portion of my interest is lost. Not all of it, of course. It's just that college football fans are the ones with the loyalties now, not many of the players. We're Husker fans, how many of the players are.. and for how long?

It remains amazing to me how they are so mathematically challenged. 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, etc. create even brackets. All the other combinations force some type of bye or multiple elimination.
No kidding!

I think it is so they can have some "control" and be able to manipulate things a bit but it is still so stupid.

4 brackets of 8 teams would be cool for wagering purposes.

Could just have 64 teams play for 6 weeks starting the weekend after Thanksgiving. Done by early Jan. Everyone with a winning record is eligible, the brackets are seeded by pure W-L record, and are assigned randomly for teams with equal records. The committee gets to decide who the last ones in/out are.

Or go even crazier with 128 teams over 7 weeks - almost everyone gets a chance.

Could start the season a week earlier and start the tourney on Thanksgiving weekend.

I agree. I have always thought 8 teams was a pretty good number.

But, college sports for some reason, is stuck on wanting to have weird brackets in tournaments.

Weird brackets mean more "important" games, and that's the overall goal because people will watch. It bothers me because I genuinely don't believe more than 4-6 teams each year deserve a shot at the championship (8 is about my limit), but it is what it is.

I understand the reasoning. But, take the money out of it, and it makes a lot less sense.
