12-Team Playoff On the Way; 14-Team to Follow

I've always been a proponent of an 8 team playoff. No need to go bigger. But, where we disagree is there is absolutely no need for more than two per conference. Yes, right now the B1G and SEC are dominant. But, the goal is to spread that out, not to consolidate the power more. Yes, that's what the B1G and SEC want. But, that's not what's best for the sport. And, if you can't get at least second in your conference, you shouldn't have a chance at the NC. In a perfect world, we would have 6 qualifiers from power conferences with no more than 2 per conference with 2 at large bids that can include G5 teams. Set it up like a normal tournament (none of this BS bye weeks for the top 4 bids) and let it play out.

Oh yeah....and ND can go **** themselves. Get in a conference and stop thinking you get preferential treatment.

8 - 1st weekend (20th)
4 - 2nd weekend (27th)
2 - 3rd weekend (Jan 3rd)

So is 16... and that gives all the top seeds a home game. Absolutely zero chance they go backwards to 8 teams.

16 - 1st weekend (20th) Seeds 1-8 at home
8 - 2nd weekend (27th) Top 4 remaining seeds at home or Neutral site?
4 - 3rd weekend (Jan 3rd) Big neutral site games for final 4
2 - January 12th or 19th National Championship (since the love to put this game on a Monday)

When we had proper 12 or 14 team conferences it was an easy fix:
16 Teams, Round 1 (Conference Championships):

B1G West vs B1G East
ACC Coast vs ACC Atlantic
P12 North vs P12 South
B12 North vs B12 South
SEC East vs SEC West
ND or At Large vs At Large
G5 2nd Highest vs G5 Highest Ranked (play after title games)
At Large vs At Large

After these games are played, BCS computers/polls/committee Ranked their seeds for Round 2:

1 vs 8
2 vs 7
3 vs 6
4 vs 5

Then Round 3 the remaining 4 teams followed by Championship. It would have allowed all division winners to get a fair shot at the playoffs, plus 4 at large who didn't win a division to play in, as well as lower tier conference winners to get in. It keeps the conference championships important. But now with super leagues and a convoluted playoff they are not only unnecessary but teams don't want to play them. Teams wanting to opt out of a game to win their conference, it's just unbelievable we've gotten here.
