12-Team Playoff On the Way; 14-Team to Follow

16 is perfect, just let Utah, Texas, Vanderbilt and (sigh) ND in instead. Cinderella just isn't the same in football, they need to be left out now.
Tulane and JMU are better than Notre Dame ??

BTW, still my second favorite team, Fighting Irish.

Win one for the Gipper, Four horsemen, Knute Rockne story, Jesus Touchdown, All American & Rudy movies, etc. etc. etc.

They were two of the five highest-rated conference champions, (both ahead of ACC champion Duke). The top five conference champions are automatically included.

I hear a lot of complaining about JMU and Tulane and I agree. However, I don't think the problem is with the playoff system as much as it is with the rankings. Here is JMU's schedule. I think Nebraska might have won 10 games playing the same opponents.

I can say almost the same with Tulane's schedule. Guessing Nebraska wins 9 or 10 with that slate.

Only one ranked win on the schedule and that was to another team that probably shouldn't have been ranked - North Texas. Here is their murderers row of a schedule.

When it is suggested that G5 has its own playoff, I started thinking about it. I think it would bring more money and viewership to the G5. Put them in smaller bowls, and you would get bigger crowds to those games. Go 8 for P-4 and 8 for what is going to be G-6.

I was long a proponent of an eight-team playoff. I thought the (at the time) five power conference champions should be included but thought there should be minimum ranking level for that to happen. Something like they were in as long as they were in the Top 12. It seems like you should have to be in the Top 20 (or something like that) to be included in a 12-team playoff. And maybe keep the Top 20 requirement if there is a 16 team playoff.

Also, many have brought up if the ACC (and maybe other conferences) would change their tie-breaking procedures, it would likely help. Miami could have been in the ACC championship game instead of Duke.

Let's all be honest.
The reason "March Madness" has 64+ teams and the reason the playoff in football is expanding is ... $$$
I used to be like Gordon Gekko and think "greed is good". I finally grew up.

Don't be running down my Alma Mater lol... But I clearly know what you mean. Even though it took me many many many years as a Mean Green. It was a fun season for UNT. Really cool seeing the upgrades and 20K fans at games. I think our capacity was upgraded to over 30k. We almost made the playoffs man. Isn't that nuts? LOL
