Anonymous message boards are often poisonous and dominated by a loud minority, so I don't understand the problem with Sipple's comment. Clearly he knows they aren't going away.

 
Fun fact: In real life Henry Winkler was a good water skier, and his mother told him he should get the Happy Days writers to come up with a scene where Fonzie gets to water ski.

I hate to break it to ya bud, but these players could learn quite a it from Tommie. A lot of it between the ears about being a competitor and the effort it takes to be a leader and stay focused. He knows the game of football as well. I know people keep,wanting to go back to his coaching record but if you think there haven't been some great coaches that have failed at some point, then OU don't know your history.

not sure how they are poisonous? is there anything in the world easier to ignore than internet message boards? and the fact that people can get riled up by what is posted anonymously is more of a reflection of society's incessant need for drama rather than any message board or even poster.

 
So, you are comparing Mark Twain writing under a second name in a news paper opinion column where everyone knows who he is, what he looks like and probably could find out where he lives and works to anonymous people sitting in their basements on social media writing things to players and about individual players that many times aren't true, they have no clue what they are talking bout, and very personal?

And, as to the constitutionality of it and his comments, you are taking his comments way too literal. I will guarantee you that he is not claiming legally they should be not allowed to do it. He is expressing the frustration that many people have (me included) over how social media shapes certain things that happen in the program and emotions around it when the people that get on these message boards and spew the worst crap almost always have absolutely no clue what they are talking about.

Message boards and comment sections would pretty much cease to exist if people were forced to use their real names. Maybe not completely but most people would refrain from posting anything imo.

Sometimes it is impossible for the program to ignore what happens on these boards.

How often has a sports program had to issue statements about what the latest rumor is that's going around on the internet and message boards?

Uh, no. Not at all.

Like I said, a lot of times when he was writing, people had no idea who he was. He was writing his beliefs and trying to sway people without his past record having any bias towards the article. If you look through the history of the printed word and our communication tunnels, this has always be done, and will always be done. I'll admit to you that message boards aren't exactly pure works of art, but information is being passed on them, (or more correctly, the internet) and they fall under the blanket of freedom of expression and privacy rights. You can pooh-pooh the idea that ALL of the posters are basement dwellers spewing idocy, but that would be an incorrect, broad assumption.

And Sipple I would hope damn well knows what he says on a radio show is going to be fodder. He may have wanted to make some grand opinion about how message boards can manifest himself, but he didn't do that. And he had the chance to do so. Several times. If his words are taken out of his preferred context, its on him, hes the "pro"

that is because the media, too lazy to do their own research, make it a story.
