2006 Husker Recruiting

I was just looking through the rivals class of 2006 and noticed how many players we were so close to getting but came up short on. I cant imagine how good we would be right now if we just got half of the ones that we really really wanted. To name a few:

DE: Rulon Davis (4 star)

DT: Gerald Mccoy (5 star), Butch Lewis (4 star), Charles Deas (4 star)

OLB: Allen Bradford (5 star)

CB: A.J Wallace (5 star), Shareece Wright (4 star), Devin Ross (4 star), Perish Cox (4 star)

S: Jonas Mouton (4 star), Greg Davis (3 star, 5.7)

G: J.B Walton (4 star)

T: Bruce Cambell (4 star)

WR: David Ausberry (4 star)

QB: Josh Freeman (4 star)

I know I have posted something like this before, rather it was just the DB's. This was the follow up class to the top five ranked 2005 class. This is nothing against the guys that we got that year, but I cant help but imagine what might be if we get 6 or 7 of those guys. That combined with the talent we got in 05', 06' and 07' that would have been three top ten classes or very close (i think 12 last year by rivals) in a row. Like I said the coaches are doing outstanding and this is nothing against our current recruits or to knock anyone, just something I was thinking about.

A lot of those guys weren't really close to being Huskers. The real close ones were R. Davis, Deas, G. Davis, Wallace, Cox, Walton and Freeman. 2 of those being last minute de-commitments. That group of 06 was a decent haul, most notably the offensive linemen that came in and Thenarse and Culbert. It could have been better, could have been a lot worse.

You said it brother. The recruits we miss out on now are generally tops in the country. I think the days of getting beat out for recruits by the likes of Temple are long past.

Maybe some of those werent down to the wire, but all of those that I mentioned maybe with the exception of Ausberry were looking hard at Nebraska well into the season.
